TBH way up the cost of a new TV before making a claim for acidental damage, (Cant speak for more than) but i am with lloyds and it was just a night mare. They will ask you to provide a damge report so you will have to pay a TV repairer to give you a report stating the damage (how it was caused) cost of repair cost of replacement then your likely to have wait a month
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

I'm with the last two posters. Weigh up the cost of just replacing it yourself against increases premiums and the chance the insurance company won't actually pay out.

The Wii instructions are quite clear that the strap must be worn at all times. The warnings are that frequent and obvious, it's impossible to not know this. So if you don't wear it the insurance company may regard you as being negligent and not pay out. I have read of this happening, but can't remember where it was.
  • I made a call to More Than this morning and raised a claim (TV was £798 so cost to replace was too high to not claim)

    Forgot to mention the Wii....HOWEVER....

Whilst on the call I was asked if I had any other warrenty to cover the TV. I was unsure and so raised the claim.

Have checked and found that I have a warrenty that covers breakdown due to mishap. Have called and they will collect the tv this week....look to repair and replace if needed.

    Have cancled my Morethan claim.

Don't be surprise if your premium goes up even though you don't claim. MoreThan may record this as an "incident" despite not claiming.

Tis ok as I wont be "staying" with them...Topcashback every year
  • it doesnt matter if you change or not, the incident will need to be disclosed (or risk insurance being invalid) - many companies now use a Claims Underwriting Exchange system and it will show up when you get quotes if they use the system. Many online systems dont allow you to fully complete if you have had 'loss, damage or liability' so as such it may affect your ability to complete via topcashback.

I had a similar experience last year when my son and his friend, fooling around and arguing over whose turn it was to go on the xbox, managed to put the controller through the screen of my 6 month old 32" LCD.

To be fair to the insurers, Norwich Union, they had a replacement TV (of the same make - Panasonic, but the latest model) delivered to my doorstep within a week, and weren't even interested in taking the old one away, although at the point of claim I did offer to email them a photograph of the damage.

I ended up selling the old one for spares on Ebay :j

When it came to renewal the premiums were no more than the previous years.:T

OP - do you have rubber jackets for the controllers? Even if you do forget to put the wrist strap on, it can help with the grip.

I have the rubber covers but had taken them off as they do not fit in the charging unit with them on.....doh.

Does anyone know how it works in terms of replacing if they cant fix. Where I got it from do not stock the make any longer (philips) and it was 3 years ago that I got the tv.
  • I would put straps back on and insist they are used, put jackets back on and just peel the bottom up to fit in the charger unit. (thats what we do). Otherwise you will be going back down this route again. When I last had to claim on my insurance for my T.V a few yrs ago they gave me a voucher for Currys, and i had to pay them my excess of £50 but that was towards the cost of the tv.
