Can the council request your bank statements for past 6months (discretionary housing)

According to a previous post, you live in a flat worth over £500,000. Do you really expect the state to pay for such a lifestyle?
I had a read of that post. I was :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:..... How on earth do you expect to buy it on what you say you could earn? your post says 23k.
This has got to be a wind up. Ask your parents who own 3 properties fior help and stop trying to wring every penny from the rest of us.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

You should be using this time to find housing that's within madam's pocket.0

Cos even with the £100 per month discretionary housing payments im still £50 short on the rent (so i have to pay it out of my JSA),
and am roughly £400 short of the standard LHA rate for the area!
So the housing payment money is technically being used towards my rent, and so is part of my JSA,
and so i should be allowed to use the remainder of my JSA n money on whatever i want to, without having to justify it to the council!!
Its cos i got some forms in the post yesterday afternoon about end of year benefits, stats from council for the year, council tax details... ect
And one of the forms about the discretionary benefits said that they may request ''proof of income and expenditure'' for it.
And so it got me concerned.
I do not understand why you are concerned because if everything is in order you have nothing to worry about.
As has been said if you claim means tested benefits you need to show that you are entitled in order to receive them.0 -
Why are people commenting on the value of the place i rent now??
All i asked was about how much detail of my expenditure the council will look into before deciding if il get my discretionary housing benefit renewed,
not for a sermon on morals.
And yes luckily my parents do help me out financially thanks,
thats the only way i can afford to live with only getting £150 jsa externally.0 -

I havent done anything wrong or anything.
Its just cos i got abit of extra cash come in to long overdue holiday entitlement pay from a previous job,
combined with part of my tax-rebate,
and so i bought myself some expensive goodies for xmas.
But that letter yesterday just worried me abit since if they looked back to this far they may say ''you dont need the money cos you able to afford stuff like that'',
which would be totally unfair though as i have spent the DHB only towards my rent,
and paid for the things i bought from my own money.0 -

I did not say you had done anything wrong.
If you are worried maybe you should explain it to the Council.0 -

Have you declared your extra income to the JCP
Its not ''extra income'',
it was money that was owed to me from previous wages/tax rebate for the overpayment of tax that id made due to being on higher tax band by accident.
Its annoying that i cant claim back all the money i paid in tax this year till 4th April though, since ive earnt just under £6,000 through paye,
and so am entitled to a fall rebate of abit over £1,000.
Will that actually count against me though if the council can see that sorta stuff when re-assessing my discretionary housing benefit renewal??0 -

If you answered all the questions truthfully then the DHP should not have been granted in the first place. Do you remember the question "Do you receive any other money from any source for example family or friends?" I'd say you answered no.
In answer to your first question and I really do hope this will close the thread.
If you are worried about what appears on your statement then don't use your card in shops always withdraw money at a cashpoint then they will have no idea what you have spent it on. I have loads of gambling transactions (i play free bingo to get a few extra pounds) on my statements and they don't question it.
I only receive normal housing benefit and although I pay more rent than I receive in housing benefit, it is my choice that I moved into a larger than average property for the area and as I am now between jobs I will make up the difference using my savings and I don't want to be forced into looking for another cheaper place to meet the requirements of claiming DHP.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
