engineers has fixed my boiler but recommened a filter, but cant remember what he said. its a filter that filters the water to stop metal particles !!!!!!ing up the boiler. he said BG fit them for £250 but a local engineer proberly will be cheaper. anyone know the name of the type of filter.

Have you got a hard water problem? We had one similar to http://aquadialwaterfilters.co.uk/aquadial_combi_care.htm
fitted

The OP doesn't have a scale problem. They have the products of system corrosion in their CH water. Different issue requiring a different solution.

Is it a magnaclean? dh works for BG and fitted one to ours, a few days after he fitted it we had loads of gunk coming out of the taps, which I assumed was probably scale.
I assume it is working ok, he is at work at the moment but I will ask him when he gets home and update later.0 -
FWIW thse sites often have useful info on such matters e.g. boilers CH etc.

Don't go for the magnaclean. They are a current "money making" scheme by BG. These are quite hard to clean for older people, and as long as the system is fully flushed and had an Inhibitor added to the system then the problem of corrosion should not happen0

Summat's not right. The magnaclean goes on the return just before the boiler. As I pointed out to oldwiring (but he ignored me ) a magnaclean has nothing to do with preventing scale build-up. Its to remove the products of corrosion. In any event the part of the circuit this operates on is isolated from the DHW whatever your boiler/system type. If you've got "gunk" in your tapwater its a coincidence unless something has gone rather wrong. Be interested to hear what transpires. Is it a magnaclean? dh works for BG and fitted one to ours, a few days after he fitted it we had loads of gunk coming out of the taps, which I assumed was probably scale.

Highly recommended if you are fitting a nice new high tech combi/system boiler as a boiler change.
Always flush the old system through and flush through again (new pipework) before fitting nice new boiler.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

Most Heating engineers also now fit magnacleans because they work. Of course the product adds profit to who ever fits one but that is no reason not to have it installed.
Two years ago I had a new boiler fitted which included a power flush. The heating engineer ran the new boiler for an hour and then removed the magnet, which had a thick layer of sludge on it despite the power flush. I now just clean the magnet under a tap once a year to remove a thin layer of gunk.
I was wondering whether the inhibitor was up to strength so just placed a nail on the magnet and left it for two weeks to see if it was turning rusty. Glad to say it came out as clean as a whistle but it just proves that while inhibitor is a must small amounts of sludge is still picked up my the magnaclean.0
