My first speeding ticket

Less than 3% of accidents are due to speed in excess of the legal limit...
The "scamera partnerships" claim its approx 30%-1/3rd, but they word it "excessive speed" - i.e. 30mph in a residential area on ice; a speed camera will not pick this up.
Shouldn't a lot more effort be put into more traffic police, who can actually use common sense?0 -
I was clocked at 35 in a 30 limit, paid 60 quid for a speed awareness workshop, 3quid for photos and 23 quid for a replacement licence as mine was AWOL!0

did you get points?0 -
Interesting how the police are quick to slap a fine and points on someone going slightly over the speed limit (not condoning it btw, if you are over, you're over...), but seem incapable of doing !!!!!! all about a driver who knocked my mother over and put her in hospital for weeks with a fractured leg, and probably needing a knee replacement in the near future (after the fracture has healed properly)...
After all, same copper who knew my mother had been hospitalised (and what with)....still had the incident down on 'the system' as NO INJURY???? And that was because incompetent staff at hospital sent her home after not spotting the fracture (got called back the next day and kept in...):mad:0 -
No,let off the points but still supposed to tell the insurance company and not allowed to go on another course for three years.0

hiya folks
while i totally agree with speeding being wrong and all down to the driver, i recently got a ticket myself
heres the story
my little boy fell out of bed and badly banged his head, blood gushing get the story, well it was 3.215 in the morning, neither myself or hubby could stop the bleed, so i bundled him in the car to A&E.
there have been major road works near us recently, but as i drove through them i noticed all the cones were back obvisouly no one working, no other !!!!!! on the road, so just kept going, little one absolutely screaming, so just wanted to get him sorted
then the flash came, thought nothing of it until that great letter plopped on the door mat
cut a long story short, i appealed, explaining all the above and that motherly instainct took over, by the way i was doing 48mph in a 40mph temporary limit on dual carraigeway, even added in a letter from the A&E dept, as proof of where i went
got a nice letter back a week later, just explaining, that on compassionate grounds they would waver it this time, but next time they will not be so lenient,
i could not believe it, but again very pleased (£60 still in my pocket)
i am usually a very careful driver, but this time wrong place at the wrong timethe more people i meet!! the more i like my dog !!

See the forums at https://www.pepipoo.com for help with speeding offences (and others). The "Success stories" thread will give you an idea of how successful it can be, but some people have a long slog through the courts before winning, and of course not everybody wins.

I also got 3 points last summer - first time in more years than I care to remember! I knew the camera was there but was having a dozy moment and did not realise I had got there if you see what I mean - was doing 38 and did not realise I had crossed the 30 boundary! Thought the fine was bad ... until I saw what it did to my insurance at next renewal!!
On the other side though - about 10 years ago my daughter was knocked down by a motorist who was doing LESS than the 30 speed limit as he had slowed when he saw the children waiting to cross. She stepped out in front of him and the police said that if he had been doing the 40 that most people do there she would almost certainly have been killed. I say a mental "thank you" to him every time I drive up that road!!£2 saver club £16 so far!! - it's growing!!! :j
#3 in the £30 k in 2 years on e-bay club :T

The law is the law, so there's little ground for complaint if you're in the wrong. However, it does annoy me that just reducing limits left, right and centre is assumed to somehow equate to improving safety. I'd rather ride my bike down a road with cars travelling at 40mph and the driver's paying attention than at 30 and not paying attention.Happy chappy0
