My first speeding ticket

All I can say is CONTEST it! The police are breaking the law with illegal cameras, signage and dodgy enforcement. I contested a ticket for doing 36 in a 30 and I won. I looked up the signage law on the Assoc of British Drivers website and discovered that some of the signage was probably illegal. It's not just about taking responsibility it's about playing fair and the cops aren't playing fair. Safe driving isn't purely about obeying the laws to their entirity.0

its alright contesting it and calling speed cameras elligal, but when you kill some one doing 36 instead of injuring them at 30, who will contest that.0

No. It's about driving safely. I was going too fast in a built up residential area. Maybe we take driving as a right rather than a priviledge...maybe I deserve to be fined more...maybe I should be grateful I didn't have my licence removed?0 -

Speed has very little to do with safety. Speed cameras have nothing to do with safety. Safety has EVERYTHING to do with driver concentration, behaviour and the immediate conditions surrounding.
This isn't a voluntary tax - it's a rip-off designed to fund a beaurocracy. And beaurocrats are a constituency who vote. They vote to preserve their cushy jobs and protected pensions. Get real!
Loads of advice etc here: http://www.pepipoo.com/
What they are doing is ILLEGAL. I'll repeat - those whom we rely upon to uphold our law are acting OUTSIDE THE LAW. Don't let them bully you - we're a democracy after all.
I've been driving for 25 years and never had an accident - either in my car or on my motorbike. My wife has a similar record. I've had 3 Notices of Intention to Prosecute - fought all three and they (eventually) caved in. So I sued and got my costs back, including loss of earnings for the time taken out.
My wife dutifully paid up and "took the rap". Guess who's insurance premium went up?
We're supposed to be a democracy folks. We're supposed to get the law that we want. And, funnily enough, we've got the law. The beaurocrats just don't like it - so they send us letters on police letterhead to scare us.
Don't just whinge and give in!

I'm with GP on this one!
I got 3 points back in October and to be honest I've got no-one to blame but myself. I'm pretty sure that 99% of people of say they are wrong have points themselves.
Ask yourself this; would you help someone try and get out of 3 points and a fine if they hit your child doing 35 in a 30 zone?
We can argue until we are blue in the face whether speed limits reflect modern day conditions BUT at the end of the day we all know what they are. If you decide to take the risk and get caught you have no-one to blame but yourself.

I completely agree here.
I think dont commit the crime if you cant face the punishment, if you know you are travelling over the speed limit then you should expect what you get if you get caught.0 -
I am 45 and had a clean licence till last summer and then got caught doing 57mph in a 50mph zone.I was working at time. It was a dual carriageway, i was sick. You will get over it. 3 points and £60.00 fine. It sure slows you down. I will lose my job if i get another one !0

Still have old green licence and can you believe they hand-wrote points on my licence, could have done that myself if they asked and would have saved them and me postage!!!!!! Martin would have liked that, should I mention it to the DVLA.0
