Is it me or is bonjela THE hardest thing to apply!

I have what seems to be a few ulcers on my lower lip where my teeth meet the gum and rising up all the way to my outter lip. It kills!

I have tried applying Bonjela, but OMG! its so hard! I have tried pasting it on with my finger but it just seems to roll all over my finger and avoids staying put on the ulcer. Similar with a cotton bud and I also tried squirting the tube straight onto the ulcers. The stuff just disappeared with some saliva carrying it down the back of my throat! Now my tounge is numb!

I never seem to be able to apply this stuff when I try, it baffles me as to why I keep rebuying it to use again! The 'bonjela once' which made me scream like a banchee, was easy to apply and worked but at £9 for two applications its a bit beyond my budget!

Does anyone have any tips for mouth ulcers? have so far tried bonjela, iglu, abesol gel, salt applied neet (only do this if you are drunk!) and vitamin C intake has been upped.

I use to suffer from regular mouth ulcers and have tried pretty much everything with mixed results. A dentist recommended just rubbing toothpaste on the uclers regularly, and it definitely works the best. The toothpaste will kill any bacteria around the area, helping it to heal. BTW I upgraded my electric toothbrush and I don't get mouth ulcers anymore. (I don't know if its linked or not)

Ambosol or honey on ulcers work the best for me.
  • Ambesol do a liquid which isn't so slippery to apply or try using a clean towel to dry the end of your tongue and sticking a blob of Bonjela on there and then use your tongue to rub it into the ulcers if you see what I mean.

I'd agree with this as well.
Bonjela always used to make my ulcers much worse.

I have always recommended a cotton bud and TCP. It will sting for a brief period of time, but will get to work quickly.
Try to imagine nothing ever existed...

I used to use Bonjela but I thought it was crap. I now use Adcortyl which sticks to the ulcer and is brilliant, clears them up so quickly!
  • I usually end up gagging whilst trying to apply it or licking it off!
    April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£150
  • Put a good liberal finger wad of salt on it rubbing fast till the top of it comes off. It soon sorts it out.

:( Tried that- thats what I used to do as a kid, doesn't really work very well for me, I just seem to rinse it all away with saliva!

The towel idea sounds like a good one- may apply to tissue instead as a towel (or flannel) sounds pretty large to have hanging from my face!!

I wish I were able to rub the stuff in with my tounge but it hurts so much! Then my tounge goes numb...

Am thinking after a few drinks I wont feel a thing anyway...!:D
