FreeCycle: The mind boggles...

it's not because they're fussy, it's to avoid people kicking off.
i used to work for a large bookshop chain and the amount of times i had to listen to people trying to have an argument with me because 'you have 28 shelves of new age but only two shelves of religion'.. well, that's because we're trying to make money and so choose to stock what sells.. obviously i did not say that - i would generally say that we were trying to support small religious bookshops. while this was completely made up, it's still a positive thing (and actually, it was a consequence), but do you think that answer made people happy? no, because all they wanted was to argue. do you think they bought any of the books that we had? no. do you think they ordered one when i offered we could get anything that's in print usually by the same day? no.
i volunteer for the red cross and we're not allowed to sell religious items - this is mostly because people get offended if you have items representing one religion but not others in the same quantity. or they find other religious offensive because, you know, there's only one god, and it's theirs.
it really is to prevent people from getting annoyed - charity shops heavily rely on people bringing their stuff and/or buying stuff. there's plenty of them out there so if you can avoid offending people in hope they'll come back, that's what you do.
Also if people don't buy them they would be taking up shelf space where they could put books that will sell.0 -

the odd joke ones can be fun to read but to many and it just ruins the whole concept of freecycle0 -
My first ever posting to my local freecycle group was
Offered : Moses Basket. Does not contain Moses0 -
Must admit, I use freecycle a lot, my husbag is a definate "hoarder" whereas I like to be clutter free. I wanted us to keep our old telly "Just in case".....incase of what? The sound went one month, followed by the picture the following month, so what other purpose would it serve?
So once every few months, I have a mass clearout. Decent stuff gets ebay'd, ok stuff gets freecycyled, the rest gets a lifetimes holiday at the tip.
The ones that bug me on freecycle are those that post "Desperately needed" and then post things that folk can live without, like a wii accessory, or a dvd player.
I've had one guy creaping me out recently. I offered six bags of my daughters old clothes on there just before christmas, which he came and took, and since january - I have had FIVE more emails from him, asking for more, and when am I going to do another clearout etc! There's needy, and then there's plain hassling. I told him the first time I did not intend another clearout for quite a few months. I'm a little concerned, as he obviously has my address. Just wondering if I should report him to a moderator?**This space is available to rent**0 -

Why would a GUY want your daughters clothes? I think you should report him to the police.GONE ENGLAND0 -
Calling the police is probably a bit OTT. But that's pretty damn creepy and I would suggest you be VERY stern with him; make it clear that you are NOT giving anything away at this time, and that if you decide to in future you will advertise it on the Freecycle site as before, so you do not want him sending you emails. Tell him if he emails you again then you WILL call the police and report him for harassment. And DO report it to the Freecycle moderators. He should be suitably scared enough to leave you alone0

I agree as has been said. Send a plain but polite email saying that you are glad his family are happy with the clothes, but that any further offers will be put on the Freecycle board as usual for all to have the same change of getting the items.
State also that you will not be responding to any further emails from him.
If he does then contact you, then contact the Moderators of Freecycle and Yahoo as this constitutes as harassment.
Save all the emails sent and received. Say nothing that can be misinterpreted and used against you.
You could put the Mod on alert anyway, let them know the situation.
Let us know how you get on. xx** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0 -

For his daughter? :huh:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
maybe the clothes you've given him are really nice and they fit his daughter really well - after all, they're free clothes, six bags is quite a lot and maybe he's just a little greedy for more.
little girls have dads too.
i would report him if he still hassles you after you tell him to leave you alone.0 -
So how goes it?
What did you do in the end?** Freebies and money saved with the help of you all? - Don't know ....lost count! **** Stay Safe **0
