FreeCycle: The mind boggles...

Was just browsing my local Free Cycle network and was shocked to see what someone was offering...

Hi FreeCyclers, we have a large bag of freshly-fallen Cheshire snow to give away
after finding we had quite a bit left over from building a 20ft tall Snowman in
our back garden last week :-)


The snow is quite cold, almost freezing really, so anyone collecting would have
to wear Wooly Mittens, A Colorful Wintry Scarf, a Bobble-Hat and of course,
Stout Walking Boots.

We'll leave the snow outside in a transparent, recycleable, bio-degradeable sack
next to the inflatable reindeer and plastic, real-life-look Robin, with
realistic flapping wings and seed-pecking action.

Basically they just want their path clearing...?

Someone once put a "wanted" ad on for a 40 inch tv for their mother, as she had "bad eye sight". Oh and it had to be LCD...

Someone put a 'wanted' on ours for 'a sleigh bed'! And they didn't even say please!

one of the good ones ive seen on local freecycle group is .

wanted girlfriend ......... wanted girlfriend for a mate so hes not misable all the time

and offered husband ....... will sit around farting and drinking beer



the odd joke ones can be fun to read but to many and it just ruins the whole concept of freecycle

No thats for the little kiddies so you can pretend its from father christmas on christmas eve, well thats what i would use it for!

I saw this today on my local freecycle

"Box of books on spiritualism, some very thick! Charity shops don't want them due to their religious content. Need collecting asap, today would be great!"

I did not realise charity shops were so fussy, seeing as it's the 3rd world mostly that they are helping!

it's not because they're fussy, it's to avoid people kicking off.

i used to work for a large bookshop chain and the amount of times i had to listen to people trying to have an argument with me because 'you have 28 shelves of new age but only two shelves of religion'.. well, that's because we're trying to make money and so choose to stock what sells.. obviously i did not say that - i would generally say that we were trying to support small religious bookshops. while this was completely made up, it's still a positive thing (and actually, it was a consequence), but do you think that answer made people happy? no, because all they wanted was to argue. do you think they bought any of the books that we had? no. do you think they ordered one when i offered we could get anything that's in print usually by the same day? no.

i volunteer for the red cross and we're not allowed to sell religious items - this is mostly because people get offended if you have items representing one religion but not others in the same quantity. or they find other religious offensive because, you know, there's only one god, and it's theirs.
it really is to prevent people from getting annoyed - charity shops heavily rely on people bringing their stuff and/or buying stuff. there's plenty of them out there so if you can avoid offending people in hope they'll come back, that's what you do.
