I have just made paneer for the first time and have about 700ml of whey left over... can I use this for making bread or please can I have other suggestions.
My recipe for paneer was
1 litre semi skim milk heat til simmering, put in large pinch salt, and 35 ml lemon juic simmer for 3 mins. strain through cloth leave for an hr to sinish straining and then chill. It made about 4 oz not much for all that milk so really dont want to waste the whey if I dont have to.
thanks in advance for your advice0 -
Hi vij,
There's an earlier thread that may give you some ideas so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

I use the yogurt whey (a.k.a. buttermilk, I believe?) in pancakes too, the thick American ones served with maple syrup. Yummy! They end up softer and chewier, less 'doughy' than when made with milk.
If there's any left over, my SO likes to drink it! I haven't even offered it to the cats...Cogito, ergo sum.0 -
Off work with an abscess at the mo so to keep my mind busy I have made things I dont usually, butter....sooo simple and tasty, would be cheaper than buying if I can get it whoopsied
and moved onto cottage cheese:D (I'm easily pleased these days:rolleyes:)
I now have 1 1/2 pts of whey in the fridge.
What can I do with it?0 -
I often use use whey for the liquid in bread recipes, add it to the oats when making porridge and add it to the water when soaking beans.
Sorry to hear about the abscess. Hope you are better soon.0 -
