  • edf mucked me right up in the summer for the small amount of time i spent with them, thankfully i switched back to BG before i owed any money as such

sadly i think there expensive, how i managed to creat a 359 gas bill in the middle of summer for a eco boiler and just hot water at that (no heating on) amazes me my last bg bill was from aug-november and i was 55 in debt but am curratnly only paying £18 a month and £25 for leccy (nearl;y 80 in credit) i know my useage will have gone drastically up so ive set asdie £45 a week in e savings to cover thats x

sadly the only way out is to increase the dd x i want pre payment meters as id prefer them but as i dont owe BG enough they wont allow it grr, but you can have a warrent put in place to enforce you to have prepayment meters put in x

    sorry for rambleing on xx

why do you think the council should pay your gas?most of us have to pay our own.
i will tell you somthing else i am the carer for a disabled partner and yet we manage our affairs what's your excuse

The way I read it( rightly or wrongly) is that the OP is in council accom and there is a problem with the boiler that is causin high bill???? This is why they want the council to help with large bill.

you are correct that the council maintain the boiler however they do not pay for the gas it uses irrespective of how much that is:confused:

I reckon I was conned in the same manner.

British gas telling me that based on their series of questions about my lifestyle and appliances that my bill would be approx £35. 10 months later I was £500 in the red by the time I recieved the first paper bill.

Ive now paid it off but I reckon they estimate low so people slowly get in debit and therefore cannot leave.
  • I would GET A JOB if my daughter was at school all day wich she is not and im not about to leave her in the hands of strangers I didn't bring a child into the world to miss her growing up !! how rude ! my partner works 48 + hours pays his shares in tax ect and your bein rude !

the council had they acted when I told them there was a fault with the boiler as im an occupant and its there house were to refer to them, I didn't use £800 worth of sodding gas so why should I foot the bill when the council was irrisponsible for not taking faster action ! im sorry but some people are so harsh...
I am sorry you have to care for a person and able to manage and I don't see why your being that way, If I could pay it off and it was my fault fair enough but it isn't my fault !:mad:

But they didn't maintain it and and while it wasn't working correctly, it used excessive amounts of gas???? That why OP feels council should pay for the gas???

Hi Clarissa_D - Apologies for some of the replies you have recieved, but this is an open forum and you can't always choose who you sit next to on the bus.

Did you contact the Council, ( or is it Housing Association? ), by phone about the boiler problems? - If you did, I would strongly advise that you WRITE to them, listing the problem, the rise in your bills and the dates of your previous phone calls - Once it's in a letter nobody can deny or say there was misunderstanding during a phone call

Also your landlord is bound by law to check your gas boiler each year, when was the last time they did this ?
    Good Luck
  • Hi DogsHome,
I called them just before christmas, thing Is the writing to them yes it is a brilliant Idea but I would not know what to write, I need the date and proof as to when the old boiler was replaced and when they came 2-3 times to service the old boiler, It is nice of you towrite to help I appreciate it :D
i have a set payment of £35 for my Gas account as the consumptions is 50% less then last year it has gone from £800 bill to £640 :D If the council can help with say £300 of that I would be happy then the amount I pay will go down more, but heres hoping lol
    again thank you
    happy new year :D

I think here is what happend.

You had an old combi-boiler, which was actually working,
but not efficiently, probably the heat exchanger was failing (e.g. limescale clog). The council tried to repair it twice, but gave up because the heat exchanger spare part was no longer available, or it makes more sense to replace the whole boiler. So, they replaced the boiler on a third visit.

Because the council has put in a new, more efficient boiler, your gas bill has reduced from £800 to £640.

So, the council has spent one to two thousand pounds on fixing a boiler problem, which is resolved, and now you want compensation for gas inefficiently used. If they paid this, then they would have to pay out on freezer not being category A, light bulbs are not energy saving, etc.
