Hi All
I was wondering If any kind people could help me out of the horrid dark hole Im in
I joined with EDF for both my Gas and Electric,
last year I was having boiler problems and I recieve a bill of £160 in the post I have an agreement with them for both G&E to pay £25 pm, anyway they asked for the reading then said that was an "estimated bill" and my "actual" bill is £650 :eek:
all because the boiler and the council wouldn''t change it, so now the bill is up to £880 and I am paying £35 a month which was agreed, my consumption has gone down massively but no matter how much I try to clear it, I get no where near they have suggested I put a payment meter in but my daughter gets unwell and suffers Ill be stuck at home with neither G/E with an ill child the money I am paying currently is ok but there now asking £60 for BOTH as there is now a debt with the Electric £200 odd
I just receieved a phone call 2 days b4 xmas from EDF saying can I pay the amount off over the phone !!:mad:
I told her if I could Id be rid of it all and the soddin company, she told me if i didn't pay they will get a warrent to put a payment meter in
is there a way even with the arrears if I can switch companies as I have had enough now
thanks for any advice given x

I think the answer is "no" - if you are in debt you cannot switch. However; how would switching help? You are being billed for what you have used, so whoever you move to is going to bill you much the same, so you will end up in arrears with them also as you are simply not paying enough per month to cover your consumption.
I think it's fair to say that many people pay in a week what you are paying in a month.0 -
£35 per month is extremely low (and £25 was even more so) and wouldn't cover normal G&E usage, especially in winter, so it's no wonder you are in arrears. £60 pre month is equaly quite little. I don't think you can switch provider when in arrears, so the only way I can see to pay off debt little by little is to switch to prepaid meters, unfortunately, or to pay more each month.0

Why would your daughter be stuck at home without gas&electric? If you had did have a pre-payment meter installed, you would just keep an eye on it to see when you need to top up. There would be no reason to be without gas or elec.0 -
its ok I have spoken to a woman in EDF that set up the agreement and have blocked calls to me fron the other people and im to carry on paying the amount im paying I will up it with my extra I get for winter payments if I ever get it ! thanks for all the help:eek: [STRIKE]£11,362.86[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]9,973.11[/STRIKE] Loan

In the meantime see if you can get onto one of EDFs cheapest tariffs if you arent already, put some usage figures into a comparison site and find EDFs cheapest tariff and ask to switch to it.
Your outgoings wont change but it should help pay off the outstanding amount quicker.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Eh? I pay £30 a month for electric and £20 a month for gas in my 3 bed semi. We dont sit around in the cold neither....0 -
Ok well me mum helped me out clear the debt so now I will re pay her back each week, and they took £20 off as a good will guesture as I have a fixed £35 a month on my Gas so now hoping its going to be £35 for both so no more probs just need £850 for the gas but I shall keep on at council for the cash ! feel a little better though :0)
