Faulty LCD TV

I purchased a LCD TV from Curry's at the end of November 2008. The last few days it has started to develop a fault with the display which requires me to power it off and on again to resume viewing. I went into Currys to enquire about a repair or replacement, but was informed that as it was now outside of the years manufactures warrently, i would have to get an independant report of the issue and send it to them. As a result of this they "may" refund me the cost of the engineer and "may" put some money towards a replacement tv.
I have been doing some research on this and have seen numerous articles on the EU Consumers laws which mean products are covered up to 2 years. With this in mind, can i demand that Curry's repair or replace the product or do i still need to fork out for an independant check?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Forget anything to do with the EU. We have the Sale of Goods act which has all that and more. Strike the EU from your mind!
Done? Good, now you will need to get the report done. If it shows an inherent fault, then you'll get the TV repaired and the report cost refunded,Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you.
