Desperate advice on choosing a TV please

My friend wants my advice on choosing a TV for her sons Christmas present. He wants to play his ps3 on it and it will be in his bedroom.
She feels that 26" will be big enough.
We have seen some in Comet and I have a 15% code that she can use.
Hitachi , Ferguson , Samsung. Naturally she is looking for best value for money.
Currys with no discount code Matsui , Ferguson

The Matsui one has a USB port that can be used for recording TV How useful is this?

I have suggested giving a 'promise note' and she buys one in the sales but do the prices of TVs really come down much??

TIA

26" telly is a big telly for a child if you ask me???? (Depends on his age of course, he must have a big bedroom!)
    I wouldn't touch anything of Matsui, it's Curry's/Dixon's own make (as far as I know...it's a bit...naff)

A USB port for recording TV is not much use without a TV recorder of some description though, surely? The USB port is probably good for plugging in cameras and what not.

The supermarkets usually do decent deals on electricals, probably cheaper than the electrical stores.

Out of the manufacturers you've mentioend I'd go with Samsung. They generally get decent reviews.

My friend bought 2 x 40" Samsung HD ready LCD tv's in April from PC World £549.99 each.(for him/me) I noticed luckily that the price went down to £499.99 within a few days SO we got the £100 back plus £10 each (as they didn't give us 110%)

    So prices can go down!!!

"Matsui" do look cheap - you could do some reviews on the net / mags.

Don't buy cos have USB unless you need it. (you would still need a recording device)

Hi he's 14 and does have a big bedroom (as big as our living room). It's only really wanted as a screen for the PS3.

The USB port thing can record TV onto a memory stick.... probably very limited though.
Thanks for your comments. I hadn't realised that Matsui wasn't a 'brand'

I've got this one from LG:
    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001801&langId=-1&searchTerms=LG+26&Submit=GO+%3E

It's a nice set, looks a lot less tacky than most of the 26"s you see in tesco etc and the built-in DVD player is pretty handy...

If he's connecting a PS3 to it the DVD player wouldn't be that useful though.

Depends, innit. I tend to just stick Frasier or Scrubs or something in it, then watch before bed with the sleep timer on - saves having to switch discs in the PS3 and, more importantly, saves having to keep the thing on all night. Might not be useful, but then it might be handy, who knows eh.

Monitors with TV tuners from samsung have 3 yr warrenty when a Samsung TV that computer can connect to have 1 yr. So its worth looking that way too.
