BT charging incorrect for 0844 200 numbers

Options
Hi All,

For the last few months i have been noticing that BT is charging incorrectly for calls to 0844 200 numbers. I have been using 0844 200 1515 to call abroad, and the call charges as per MSE should be 0.5p/min, and it says the same when you get connected. Surprising when i received the BT bill today it was charged around 1.2p/min.

Called up BT call center and the lady wasnt really helpful and said her manager told her that the bill is correct, the only thing she could do is send me more details on my bill plus the BT call charges.

On BT's website i found the call charges and 0844 200 call have code G22 and the charges should be 0.489p/min.

I called up BT again and this time it went to India, the guy understood the problem but he had no authority to change the bill. He kindly agreed to investigate the matter and take it up with Billing department.

Did someone had similar billing experience with 0844 200 numbers?

Thx
J

You have taken the 9.05p 'call set-up fee' into account, haven't you?

    i.e. a just under 5 minute call via 0844 200 1515 would not cost about 2.5p but about 11.55p
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • sorry I didnt get this...

you mean to say call to 0844 200 1515 will cost more than 0.5p/min?

Yes because their will be a call connection charge to factor in to the total price, as it is a chargeable call.

    EG : 13 minute call times 0.5p = 6.5p + connection charge 9.05p= 15.55p .Which works out at nearly 1.20p a minute.
  • thx billsavings.

on MSE's int call checker the phone numbers which have connection fee on top are marked with # or ##, but in case of 0844 200 1515 it doesnt.

Which obviously makes me feel that call cost should not be more than 0.5p/min

    any thoughts?

When making a chargeable call on BT, a 9.05p call set up fee aka as a connection charge definitely applies.;)
  • thx everyone.

Can someone share cheaper options (without call setup fee) to call India other than 0844 200 1515

As you have probably already seen in the MSE International CallChecker, there's nothing cheaper for standard telephony.

  • do you think its worth highlighting MSE admins that they should mention that these numbers do have a connection fees, and not just the one marked with #?

    Hi,

    Been charged 20p for a 1.5min call to 0844 200 1010. I thought the charge would be 10p (setup charge) + 2*(0.5) = around 11p. Any ideas anyone???
