Toyota Yaris

Need something for the Mrs, max budget £6K. Something reliable and cheap to run. Currently looking at the post 06 Yaris 1.3 T Spirit. Will involve motorway travel.

Whats the verdict on these cars?

Any opinions will be much appreciated !

I can't believe that nobody has responded to this.

It's an excellent car. They are good for long trips as well as short and often used for motoring schools too. We have a customer that uses his daily and has a hundred mile journey both ways on his commute.

They are easy and relatively cheap to service and maintain.

Can't think of many, if any, to rival a car that size. Being a T spirit it will be top of the range too.
  • Good car agreed, but if your spending around £6K have a look at a new Kia Rio as well, especially the 1.5Diesel, you won't be much over that 6K and have the benefit of brand new with a full warranty, the Toyota will probably be about at the end of it's warranty.
  • The wife has had three Yaris. All very reliable and no problems. Mail dealer servicing is not cheap. A good car and much better than the Rio.

Good car if you dont mind the 80s styling
  • My boyfriend has an 02 or 03 Yaris, a 1.4 diesel. It's really easy to drive and it gets nice and warm in the winter, although I can't get the top blowers to not blow directly in my face so I put it on feet instead. I noticed in the summer it got really hot inside although that might be because it's a dark colour. He gets loads of miles out of it, he can get up to 90mpg. He does a mixture of city and motorway driving. And it's in the £30 tax band. I can't really comment on reliability, he's had it less than a year.

I preferred the original shape of the Yaris when they first came out, they looked really cute and cuddly. Then they started making it look more bulky, it's not cute at all any more.
  • " he can get up to 90mpg. "

    I'll have two !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Ive only driven the 1litre model which was good once you got used to it - only being a 3 cylinder engine otherwise it felt very solid for a small car the gears were a bit notchy & reading some forums this seems to be a common problem that little can be done to put right, I would probably buy one if I didnt have the extra money required for a Hyundai i20.
Theres only two rules to remember
    1) Im always right
    2) See rule 1
  • Just a quick update.. I have been offered a toyota yaris 1.3 T Spirit automatic petrol 5 door (06) 12000 miles on the clock for £6,300. I tried for £6K but the seller won't budge. It has one owner from new, an elderly lady. The car is pretty much in mint condition.

So what do you guys think? Is it a good price? I have checked parkers and whatcar valuation and they are around the 6500-6800 mark but not sure if they are accurate.

    Thanks!

    Snap their hands off.

The Yaris is a cracking car. Previously had the 1.0L and it was a brillant little car. Did everything you could want of that sort of car and definitly far superior to the likes of Kia's

What Car rate the Nissan Note as one of the best 2nd hand used car buys. I've had a diesel 1.5 SE since new with no problems. Earlier versions 06 ish should be within your budget. My wife has a Yaris 1.4 diesel and that is also an excellent car. To be honest theres not a lot to choose between them although the Nissan is roomier but Toyota dealerships are far suprior to the Nissan dealers.
