i can pay the balance in full - is this the best way to finance it?

If you're buying brand new, I think Vauxhall have 0% finance deals (for 3/4 years IIRC when I last looked). So, even if I had all the money up front, I would take the 0% deal out and stick the full amount in a high interest savings account - and just leave it to earn interest.

Otherwise, I'd always pay the balance in full - not worth paying interest on a finance deal when you can afford to pay it all off at the start.

If you haggle properly, a pre-reg is always going to be cheaper, often significantly cheaper 000's not 100's, dealers don't want stock sat on forecourts, they've got their discount from the manufacturer, so need to shift them.

Sorry, but not necessarily. You may need to go to a different dealer to get a better deal on a new car. Also, consider internet brokers.

Also, a lot of pre-reg cars are of a particular specification or model. You may end up getting £3000 off an SE with extra features on it you dont want or need, when you could have got a new S for less money.

Also, bear in mind pre-registered cars have been preregistered for a reason - often its due to a specification change or engine change that again, may impact the value of the car

Preferential finance or servicing deals may only be available on brand new cars, which may negate price differences.

Scrappage allowance wont be available on pregistered cars either.

Also, finally, particularly at this time of year and even in to early new year, most pre reg cars will be registered 09, therefore will be worth considerably less than their 2010 registered counterparts come resale time - that is a real big consideration!!

I'm not saying 'only buy new', but what i am saying is try as many dealers as is feasible in your area, check online brokers, check manufacturers deals including finance, servicing, etc, on both new and prereg cars THEN when you have all info at hand, move in for the kill with the best deal you've found and negotiate from there.

From March time it is a consideration to have a 59 instead of a 10 plate, but it declines as it goes on and can be wiped by condition and other factors the longer you own the car.

Pre-reg is worth it for most cars but you need to be careful around the 'common' big sellers like the Fiesta, Qashqui, Corsa etc where nationwide dealers buy masses of stock and can sell brand new cars with larger discounts.

True, though its interesting that all dealers, autotrader, pistonheads all list their car by year rather than by reg plate, as they know the year influences price the most.

Its generally only the larger volume manufacturers that do the pre-reg thing. the likes of BMW, Merc etc seem to resist. Even VW dont seem to pre-reg much these days.

Thanks all. Vauxhall do have a 0% finance deal but only for cars they knock no discount off! If they discount it by a few grande you cant get the 0% - i.e. it;s not 0% LOL!!!:confused::rotfl::rotfl:

Played deadler against dealer and got a good deal in the end

Year I guess is more meaningful for older letters as things like Y mean nothing to people age wise, most people do not associate Y with 2001 etc.

VW still does it but mainly though the Arnold Clark type retailers it seems who pre-reg. BMW and Merc are in different markets- the prestige thing so don't do it as much but still demos and showroom models about.
