Amazing 3 Deal - Push the retailers hard!!!

Greetings fellow MSEforum contributors.
First post and I thought I would kick off with my latest mobile phone deal.

I wanted the HTC Hero phone and having checked the spec of the phone, decided to go with 3 or Orange for coverage.

Went to Orange and they would not budge 1 bit either over the phone or in the shop to getme a deal to sign up with them, quite disappointed to be honest, but then I hit the 3 mobile store in Glasgow.

I got a brand new HTC Hero in white, 500 anytime, any net mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for.......£22.50 for 18 months. I had to pay £150 for the handset, but the total cost is £555 over the term.

The initial deal was £35 per month for 800 mins (rest as above) but the phone was free on a 24 month contract. I don't need any more than 400 mins per month (max), but the cost comparison = the standard deal is £840 over 2 years.

By paying for the handset I have saved myself £285! Quite proud! ha ha.

How did I get the deal? I was ready to walk 3 times until they eventually offered me a 25% staff discount to seal the deal. Its important you check your coverage at 3/4 postcodes you regularly visit (i did!) first and then stick to your guns, they have plenty of margin for a sale.

Best thing was I delayed my contract start by 30 days, letting me run down my deal with my current mobile provider, meaning I wiull have 2 contracts for 7 days. Not too shabby.

Share your fellow successes!!!!!!

£555 over 18 months and you need to suffer Three - I got the Hero on T-Mobile for £480 over a 24 month term....
  • How did you negotiate your deal?
  • I would prefer to buy online or over phone. cheap
    consider cashback sites
    I managed to get
    Free Hero
    100 mins
    100 text
    18 month contract paying £13.5.
I managed to get it as T- Mobile cocked up my order few times in last week and they offered me this as gesture of goodwill
but even otherwise u shud be able to get better deal.
I think paying for handset is not a great idea.
But a deal is a deal you got better than what orange has offered.
    Cheers

I prefer Direct sales T-mobile are the best, after several calls i took out 1 contract last month and another this month,

    £12.15 (10% discount) normally it is £13.50
    100 min
    100 tex
    18 months contract
HTC HERO FREE (preowned "7days return phones" but looks like brand new untouched)

Overall cost £218 , sold the phone for £ 275

    The other deal i got was for £17.5 x 18 months = 315 pounds (17.5% vat)
    800 mins x net
    unlimited text
    BRAND NEW HTC HERO free

Original deal was £35 :) thats almost 50% discount wow... :d

Is there any cooling off period ?? darkknight do you have a good coverage on t-mobile ?
  • Don't forget when comparing a deal on a 18month vs 24month contract, you need to add the cost of 6months sim-only to make it a true comparison.

So you will need 6 x £20ish on top of your £555

Still a £165 saving, but not the £285 you think.
Why pay more than you have to?
