Faulty (broken) camera bought from Argos

Options
Well, just been reading jimi3333 post and looks like we have bought the same camera, same fault - manufacturer problem? Wonder how many others bought have had to be taken back?
I bought mine 16th October, went to Cuba for my daughters wedding 13th November and it stopped working (same problems as jimi3333) two days into the holiday and had no camera to take pictures of my daughters wedding. In Cuba there is no way of going out to the shops to buy a replacement. I have had to do with having copies of other peoples photos - which is not the same. In our opinion this was a holiday of a lifetime, I missed taking photos of the wedding I would have liked to take, we went to Havana and again no camera. I felt sick when it stopped working the day before the wedding, then angry to say the least as I had purchased this specifically for our trip. I didnt buy the cheapest, it is a 12 mega pixel and it should have been £259 but bought it in the sale.
The day after I returned I emailed Argos and they took nearly a week to reply with the response basically - not our problem -take it back to the shop. Took it to the shop and it has been sent for repair - I took the insurance out when I bought it and they said that if it hasnt been damaged by me (and it hadnt) and is a manufacturers fault they will repair it free of charge, if not, I will have to claim on my insurance. Mentioned about daughters wedding, holiday of a lifetime etc and would also like some kind of compensation but the girl said she wouldnt know about that - wait until it comes back from repair and maybe the Manager will sort me out with a little gift voucher!!!!
I thought under the SOGA that you could claim for compensation for something like this.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct please before I go to the shop tomorrow to collect the repaired(?) camera. I would really like to know how I stand before I see the Manager.
I have been even more angry at Argos so far as they seem to shrug their shoulders when I have explained at how upset I was/
Any help please would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

No, you have no right to compensation unless the repair was not done in a reasonable time, sorry.

Bad situation, maybe writing to H/O will get some good will gesture but you have no right to compensation. Brace yourself though, you will be called a troll at some point because you have mentioned compo for something that isn't deserving of it.

Sorry, didnt know I was a troll - if thats a terminology used on this board by regulars - and hope anyone reading this who was about to call me one, the situation doesnt happen to them for them to know what it feels like.

As he paid by cash he needs to find the receipt otherwise he'll have to pay for the repair himself.

I certainly wouldn't call you a troll or any other rude name just becuase you feel that you should be given a bit extra to help make up for the disappointment!

I don't agree with people who bleat '**** happens', 'get a life' et etc whenever anyone voices a very reasonable (in my opinion' expectation of a sweetener. Its not compensation - you aren't entitled to that but there is NOTHING wrong with hoping for some sort of ex gratia demonstration that the company concerned is sorry for whats happened. It doesn't make up for your lost wedding photos but it does at least make you feel that the company does value you as a customer, its sorry for whats happened and hopes that you will continue to use them. Its good company policy to show regard for their customers and an ex gratia payment does not mean they have admitted any liability so its not likely to cause repercussions.
