I've got loads of pictures on my computer which I am assuming is probably why it is running so slowly. I have an external HD for back up but if I take the pictures off my computer - now for a silly question I suppose
- do they still stay on my hard drive next time I back up? Also how many pictures should I be able to get onto a DVD, approximately. Sorry if this all sounds dumb
! Thanks.

If you click and drag the pic folder/s from your 'c' drive to your external they will be copied. Click and drag to somewhere else on the same partition will only move them.
You can't tell how many pics will fit on a dvd as they'll all be different sizes. But most burning progs will show by a slide rule how much you're fitting on to burn.0 -

Nope

Nope, unless you mean you Restore from backup, then of course they then would return.

I would still double check on this. If the backup was done manually (i.e. copy and paste) there wont be any problem deleting the photos of local drive. there are some backup programs out there where there is an option to sync both folders i.e. local drive and external drive. In this case deleting on local drive will also delete data on external drive...
So please double check your back up settings...0 -
Deleting them off the local drive means that it isn't a backup, unless you make 2 copies.
Photo's don't slow the pc down, leave them where they are, back them up, and then look elsewhere, viruses, lack of ram, too many programs running at startup are common causes of slowness.!!

Always sensible to have a duplicate backup IMO :cool:0

? Thanks! 0 -
Windows Defender lets you view the list of programs running at Windows startup. You can also disable or permanently remove unneeded entries.
1. From Windows Defender, click the "Tools" button.
2. Select "Software Explorer".
3. Next to "Category" make sure "Startup Programs" is selected.
4. Windows Defender will now go through each startup program and try to verify that it is legitimate against a database of known programs.
5. To view details on a particular startup entry just click the entry. Information you may see will include:
* File Name
* Display Name
* Description
* Publisher
* Digitally Signed By
* File Type
* Startup Value
* File Path
* File Size
* File Version
* Date Installed
* Startup Type
* Location
* Classification
* Ships with Operating System
6. If you want to remove an entry from your startup list, consider disabling it first. This way you can easily re-enable it later if you find out the startup entry was useful.
To temporarily disable an entry, click the entry and then click the "Disable" button.
7. To remove an entry from the startup list, click the entry and then the "Remove" button.0 -
As well as burning to a DVD, you should upload them to online storage. Microsoft SkyDrive offers 25 GB of online backup for free.
Or, Google's Picasa Web Albums gives you 1 GB for free, and you can purchase an additional 20 GB for £5 a year. It has better features than the Microsoft offering, such as facial recognition and geo-tagging of photos.0 -

There's a few ways:
type msconfig into run and go to startup and see what's running. Too many will slow things up. Or d/load Startup Inspector http://www.windowsstartup.com/startupinspector.php.
Also, what security are you running? (firewall and antivirus etc)0
