  • Pretty good day moneysaving wise. After cancelling the Virgin contract I made a draught excluder for th porch door. Think I need to make a heavy curtain for it there too really. Then I started a scrapbook to give my new SIL for her birthday on Saturday. Think I'll be able to finish it with no spending :D. Then Mrs Ging 'found' £500 (a cheque that she had been asked to bank 4 months ago and I had stupidly never checked).

Oooo, just remembered I need to text my brother my bank details as he sill owes me £60 for the kids xmas pressies :T:T:T

Tax returns also done.... although not looking forward to the bill .

  • Hi all,

Mrs Ging was at home yesterday and we still managed to have a no spend day :D:D:D.

Finally have enough money to pay the bill for the flooring we had done last month. I had been feeling quite bad as the flooring company is owned by a friend of ours :o. Last month was tight as I had a car accident. A guy cut me up and at the time apologised and said he'd do the right thing and admit liability. He of course went back on this and I lost my no claims (just as my insurance was due ) and had to pay my excess. In total he cost me over £1000 :mad::mad:. As you can tell, I am feeling calm and relaxed and have let go of my anger now ;).

On a more positive note my mortgage provider has written to me again this month to say that next months payment will be 29p cheaper due to this months overpayment.... every little helps :D.

Yesterday I started to plan my veggie garden for this summer - will finish over the weekend. I know.... it's thick snow outside and I'm daydreaming about providing a year of the family's food out of my tiny plot! In seriousness it does help me to get through these depressing months.

    I've got
    5 x 1msq beds
    15 pots
    10 hanging baskets
A small area outside my back door

I'm hoping that this year I will get a bit more out of them then I did last year. Growing from seed doesn't really work for me as I don't have the space for seedlings (although I'm happy to do things like salad leaves that I can direct sow) so I'm investigating plug plants online. I will be paying for all plants out of my grocery money as hopefully we will be eating them! Just trying to work out the most economical use of the space.

Hope you're all having a good day,

    Ging x

Wow, clearing all that debt in 3yrs.

What do you do if you dont mind me asking? £4600 every 4wks after tax is a very good wage, circa £90k pa.

Did i read that you and your husband were foster carers? I didnt know that paid so well:eek:

Anyway, wish you all the best. My plan is mortgage free by 40, not a hope in hell by the time i'm 30.

    Good luck

Foster care is a good wage (although your maths is out and it's not £90K unfortunately!) although it is £6.80 per hour and from that you are expected to give set amount to the kids for pocket money, clothing etc, set up savings for them, pay your own taxes etc and don't get any holidays or any pay if you don't have children in place. I could go on!

Sadly lots of people do get into fostering for the money which I totally disagree with.... with kids have enough issues without feeling like they're a financial gain. I know a carer who doesn't even like kids .
  • Thanks Raini..... nice to see you again :)
  • Evening all.

Good day today. Focused a bit on using some leftovers up. Fresh bread and potato wedges made to go with leftover chicken salad for tea. Carrot muffins to use some dubious looking carrots up. Coconut biscuits to use up the tonnes of porridge oats I have :D.

I also bought a loads of cheap tuperware boxes and have used them to organise my store cupboard. The idea is that the size of tuperware box is the amount I need to keep in stock so when it gets low I know that's the time to fill up. Wow my life is dull, isn't it?!?! Anyway, it will combat my 'bought some more because I couldn't see it in my disorganised cupboard now I realise I already have loads' problem :o. Today I discovered 5 bag of different gone off flour, 3 x baking powder, 4 x vanilla essence, 3 opened bags of icing sugar, 3 boxes cornflour.... I could go on :o:o:o. Lots more baking this week I think .

Also, bit the bullet and put in an application for an allotment. Bet it'll be ages to get to the top of the waiting list though.

Plus, spent a lot of time on my farm.... made a tonne of money..... shame I can't put it to my debts though :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

  • Afternoon all,

Just a little update and then I must get on. Menu plan for this week has been done and I've done my grocery shop - came under budget too :D.

I have also bought some stationary items so I can create a Household Manual to get this house organized! I think it's going to take quite a bitof work but it will definately be worth it to have everything on one place.

    Off to get started.....

    Thank you :)
Seems to be working so far..... I can actually open my cupboard doors and see EVERYTHING!!!!!!! Plus the space is being used well as the boxes are stacked on each shelf.
