i should have been in Atlanta right now but me and my 8yo son found ourselves at Manchester this morning, extremely disappointed, our flights were cancelled due to the weather. First flights we could defiantly get on are xmas day,,better than not going at all, so thats what we'll be doing, 10 hours on a transatlantic delta flight. Ive been told flying xmas day is great, im not sure if this is people trying to cheer me up, im just wondering what to expect? are the airports quieter, quicker through immigration, trolley dollies in party mode, turkey dinner?

I've done it.... was a nice atmosphere on board and the airport wasn't too busy. As you say it's better than not going at all.
Just seen you're flying Delta.... you'll have a laugh I'm sure! American crew are crazy & wouldn't be surprised if they sing to you over the pa system ect!!:j :j0 -
Yes, I have, although as I was flying Emirates to Oman it wasn't that "Christmassy" lol. But the airport was quiet, and what staff were on were determined to make the best of it I seem to remember. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I flew to Australia from Heathrow last Xmas day. The airport was quieter but still busy and half the shops were shut. The flight itself was exactly the same as any other long haul flight, no better and no worse. There was nothing special at all done on the flight and it was totally full.0

im actualy looking forward to it now, the original flight was klm man/ams then ams/atl, they agreed to put me direct to atlanta with delta, ive flown with them a few times and they seem ok, my sons face when he realised he wasnt going to america today broke my heart, so i just needed to get something sorted for his sake, luckily its a 3 week trip so we're only loosing 4 days. Hes ok now he knows hes still going.0 -
I've flown on Christmas Day and it's no different, it might have been if you were booked on a British Airline but as it's Delta it's more likely to be an American crew and their big celebration is Thanksgiving. But I'm sure first class will be nice

It will sure be easier to get an upgrade, especially if you tell them original flight was cancelled due to weather etc.
Airport will be lot quieter, generally less hustle and bustle.0 -
I found flying XMAS day very costly, the sales at the shops in the departure lounge had started !!!:beer:0

Hahaha, I do like a good dose of healthy optimism :rotfl:
Flew out to Colombo via Dubai with Emirates on Christmas Day last year; not really much different to any normal flight except people generally seemed to be cheerier, flight was packed solid too.0
