Sky box not working - any help please

Options
Hi,
Not sure if I am posting in right place or not, am new to this site.
We had a massive bolt of lightening earlier today and loudest bang of thunder, anyway our tv went off and now our sky box is not working.
We only have the red standby light on and cannot get the box to switch on. Tried calling sky and they said to press the back up button and update the system then it should work, have tried this, and still not working. She could only advise that we have a call out of £65 and someone could come and have a look, but not sure when they could do this, maybe wednesday. Not great timing with children at home and off for christmas, although saying that they are not massive tv watchers and enjoy playing anyway.
Not sure what else to try or if I should just say to them am going to leave anyway, and see if they offer me someone to fix it so that I stay (have heard people doing this). Or should I just pay the £65 at this expensive time of year ??

PSU is blown. No quick fix apart from trying a boot sale & calling Sky to pair the card.

With this off, press two buttons on your box at the same time:

    1. The backup button
    2. the button in the middle of the cross - the select I think

Keep these pressed for about 10 seconds. While they are pressed, plug the box in again. This should work.

At least if you have a signal....we have no signals at the mo due to poor weather:mad:

Unplug from the mains...........hold in the back-up button on the digibox...then while holding in the back-up button on the digibox plug back in the mains supply while still holding in the back-up button for around 10/15 seconds until the tv shows....."UPDATING NEW SOFTWARE THIS MAY TAKE UP TO TEN MINUTES..........but i think your digibox may be beyond help....and nothing will show on your tv.........

yea just tell them your going to leave.. soon as they put you through to cancellations (retention?) they will ask why, tell them no point in paying for sky when you can t watch it due to a faulty box and you cant afford to pay £65 for a cal out. there reply " would you like to stay if i ccould fix your box for free" sorted..
  • Thanks everyone.
Tried this antenna and didn't work, box beyond repair I think !
When DH got home from work we had a look around at other digital companies like virgin and bt vision, but sky works out better for us, with phone and broadband. I wouldn't be too worried with just tv and freeview, but dh likes some ofthe sky channels and also dd's like the kids channels.
Anyway,we phoned sky and when we said about leaving someone offered us an HD box for an extra £10 a month - no thank you ! Then put us through to a different cancellation department, who then said the if we wanted to upgrade to a sky plus box it would be cheaper at the moment than the £65 call out fee - £59 only saving of £6 - so decided to do that as we don't really want to leave sky.
