Although these two problems do not affect their overall functionality, it is annoying that I have paid for these features and they no longer work.
As they are still less than a year old, who should I contact to get a replacement or repair, should I go back to Argos or to the manufacturer?
I still have the receipts for both items but not the boxes.
Thanks
The retailer is liable under the Sale of Goods Act. Actually, you will have no problem with Argos with getting the items replaced. They are excellent on customer service, particularly as you have the receipts.
Regards,
Art.
Am probably being really stupid here, but what is the difference between the kettle and the camera?
the kettle may have very little spares available at such a high cost that it saves them money to replace or refund. Thats the difference.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Hi again,
I wouldn't put it past the retailer to ask the lady with the kettle to prove that she hadn't broken it, which they must therefore beable to do as it would have been after 6 months.
I think the thing that gets to me the most is that you can buy something brand spanking new, have it a couple of months, it breaks, and you have to be satisfied with a repair, it just seems so wrong.
I can fully understand the retailer wanting to prove that it was dropped or something, but when it shows that it has not been, then it seems awful that I then have to have a repaired camera. I wanted a brand spanking new one, not a repaired/reconditioned one.
Also, they are dealing with this, what is to stop them sending it somewhere in shoddy packaging, it gets thrown around in the post and they then say it has been dropped?
Anyway, rant over, lol. Many many thanks 4743HudsonJ, Josh for your insight.
A very merry christmas to you to

well think of t from the retailers side, its not their fault its broken, the problem is liability has to end somewhere, and no matter what somebody will always be hard done by.
SOGA is extremely well balanced and fair, you have had a very bad situation of it but imagine somebody with a 5yr old expensive tv breaking and getting a repair for it free because of SOGA. Think how grateful they must feel. The line has to be drawn somewhere and SOGa is very good for this.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Aha,
I see now.
I thought that a reasonable timeframe was 6 months. That seems reasonable to me, (although I suppose it would, lol).
I would have been even worse if it was only weeks old. It was "excempt" apparently from the 30 day guarantee, so presumably even if it was broken after 1 week, it would still have to be repaired? If so, that just seems even more wrong.
Thanks again.
Argos did the same thing to me, it didn't matter one iota that by them sending it off, i was missing a short break and a football presentation. It had to be sent off. It had to go for repair. Was even given the dubious advice to go and buy a camera from currys and return it after the holiday. I didn't take this advice.
Well the time limit for repair came and went and no call to say it was back in store. I called them and after being passed from pillar to post and back again. It transpires it wasn't sent off for almost 2 wks, so wouldn't be back for ages. Meaning I was going to miss another break, after a brief arguement I was given a full refund!!!
Bearing this in mind I went to purchase anew one. As an argos card holder who was buying other stuff ( so taking benefit of the buy now pay6mths) I returned to argos for the new camera. However in the store we visited the one camera I wanted was the store display model. Having watched the staff manhandle another camera for a different customer, I asked what would happen if I got the camera home and it was faulty. Was told in NO uncertain terms that as it was excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee, it would be sent for repair! I asked even if I brought it back the very next day, and was again told repair!!!!:eek: ( yes i realise they can't do that) but didn't fancy having a right royal ding dong in the shop, so walked away.
Argos seem to be adding the 30 day rule to more and more items.0
