  • This is actually very good news. I am delighted!

Why should those who knew what the bank charges were, but carried on spending money that wasn't theirs, be rewarded retrospectively for their behaviour by the courts?

This country is going to the dogs due to people spending money that wasn't theirs in the first place: banks, consumers and the government. This judgement is a first sign of a return to common sense and normality.

On the one hand this site encourages being thrifty and living within your means, on the other it believes that the thriftless should be rewarded for their irresponsibility. You can't have it both ways as the courts have said!

Perhaps you have been lucky enough to not have lost your job or been put in a situation leading to these charges being added and added, perhaps it is you who should return to common sense and normality!
  • don't assume people getting into debt is about not living within your means.
There are lots of other factors. Mine was having kids when I didn't expect it many years agoa and having to live on my pathetic wage at the time which only covered (Just) the bills

Which fits the definition of not living within your means.

Death, chronic illness, unemployment (what is it now 2.5 million officially?).

Why do people come onto a section of the forum clearly marked reclaim bank and credit card charges if they don't agree with that?

I won't be bothering to reply as I'll be spending my time helping people. You should try it sometime.

    Hi,
I had some bank Charges recently, from the halifax .
They have been reduced down to £15 a transaction now, whereas previously they were £35 a time. Is this an argument when it comes to fairness? have they been instructed to reduce them on that basis?
I am now in debt recovery. The charges incurred at £35 a time, did worsen my financial situation, so i believe they have contributed to this.
Is this a good reason to use when reclaiming?

have they been instructed to reduce them on that basis? No, it was a commercial decision

If you have priority debt arrears(rent/mortgage, utilities) then perhaps on financial hardship.
