    That one!!!!!

I've only been using (and gaming on) Win7 since the 1st day of the BETA so I may not have much experience of it yet, but in that time the ony OS re-installs I've done have been to RC and to the actual retail. Windows 7 in not crashproof, I have had it crash on me...once...immediately after I installed some naff VPN software (it installed an unsupported, and apparently not working driver...windows even tried to warn me...but I knew better :) ) It took all of 2 minutes to uninstall the software and get back to relative stability.

    No

Plenty of official and unoffical lists out there.

I have more inside knowledge of the SSD technology, particularly in the area of reliability/stress testing for ****** (edited) applications. But im sure as you can appreciate now, I cannot go into further detail.
Perhaps this is why I have a preference for the tried and extensively tested/proven technology.

Fact i had to reinstall windows myself, proved it was not tested. !!!!.

nVidia card by any chance? Unless you install the drivers from nVidia, the GPU cooling fan runs full tilt. The ones from Windows Update tend to be insufficient to stop this.

    I have to love it....NOT
So the OPs PC is not a true gaming rig does the term ELITIST mean anything to you.
A gaming PC is any PC that can play the games you want at a resolution and frame rate that suits the monitor setup you have. You have built a pretty nice rig for £850 and yes I am jealous, just don't have £850 to blow on a PC. What GPU are you using? That is the true bottleneck of any 3D platform. A 5770 will perform greatly with any current title very easily on an average 19" ,monitor at 1280x1024. Admittedly a 260 or a 4890 performs better the 5000 series run cooler and consumes less power.
However the OP was asking about what to do with his PC. As it isn't water cooled any ideas?

Throw away ALL stock cooling (inc. GPU) and replace with good quality

I can and did play that classic game "Total Anihilation" on an IBM 770X laptop (300mhz PII 256mb ram). My current laptop an IBM T42 with happily run Half Life.
Both are classed as business grade laptops.

The point I was trying to make is that stores are selling these "gaming PC's" which really aren't all that different bar a few fancy neon bits and LED case fans.

ATI 4890, cheapest OEM one I could find because I've had a habit of killing expensive GFX cards over the years.

To be fair I didn't have the cash either until I got my new job, even then I didn't want to spend the money, but when my old PC (my old self build, AMD gaming rig) started going wrong with a number of obvious hard ware faults, I had a choice....

Buy a new PSU (dropping 5v rail), harddrive (4 years old), memory (errors) and GFX card (artifacts) OR spend a bit more on a totally new PC.

The whole purchase was not something I really wanted to do, but it was the wisest decision in the circumstances. I do use my PC a hell of a lot, if im home its on.
Im not one for showing off, to look at it you'd think it was nothing special, a plain black Antec 300 mini-atx case, functional and compact.

I must admit I've not experienced anyroblems gaming on Windows 7 6 Bit yet.

I don't have alot of games instaleld at the moment but so far I've installed and run successfully

    Company of heroes
    Empire total war
    Foreign legion: Buckets of Blood
The secrt of monkey island: Special Edition
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic

None of the above have been any problem at all and none are that recent.

I agree with you ont he case though. I'vejust got a basic black Gigabyte case with no flashing lights.

One thing I did with mine was get a Zalman fan for the CPU with an external speed controller. I keep it turned down low and quiet for everyday use and wind it up to full speed so it's a beit noisier for gming but then it's drowned out by the games.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
