Thanks Canucklehead! It doesn't have our shower, but it seems that I might need this new cartridge. Can you change these without retiling? Or is the bit you need to get to behind the tiles. The shower is like this but different. It has a plastic knob with metal sides rather than all metal

    http://www.mirashowers.co.uk/onlinecatalog/detail.htm?productNumber=Combiforce 415 Ev&section=Mixer showers&resultPageKey=2000826190-0&category=

The combiforce 415 is NOT a thermostatic shower (although it does have a cartridge) and if it only looks like this one we are none the wiser which one it is. However, access to the valve itself is by removing the control knob. Lets assume it is a combiforce for the moemnt. If its an exposed valve version then look at page 41 of THIS document which shows how it all goes together and is slap bang in the middle of the "How To Change The Cartridge" section. If its a concealed valve there is a cover plate which just removes (probably siliconed onto tiles) and gives you access to everything as per the exposed valve version.

Basically they are all very similar but you WILL need to ensure you get the right cartridge for yours. If its just the O ring seals then you have to take the whole thing apart anyway. If it is the cartridge then make sure they send you a complete new set of seals AND both hot and cold inlet strainers as well. When refitting the seals make sure they are properly located and don't "nip" them. If you do it will continue to leak.

Do the whole lot at once whilst you have the valve taken apart - its easier in the long term!

Retiling isn't required in either case unless you make a complete bog of it and break one!
Haven't a clue what you mean Keystone!!!
Do you mean my first post of the one just after CH? If its the latter its just my warped SOH. CH intermittently signs his/her (depending on which one of them it is) posts with "GSR". No relevance to the thread actually. :D

Take a picture and email it to showerdoc and mira, they'll advise you what shower it is, as most miras look similar to the one you have selected.
Or trawl through the showerdoc website, they usually have the ones mira don't make anymore.
  • My DIY skills are minimal to say the least...but I managed to change the cartridge on my own shower without TOO much bother. I used the link that canucklehead kindly provided to get the part ( if necessary get Mira to identify the shower and part then buy from the other place it worked out much cheaper for me that way! )

Its quite DIYable TBH. The one that the OP says it looks like has 4 screws which hold the valve cover in place and makes it easy. The blighters are those that have a 32 (or so) mm threaded nut on the valve body holding them together that hasn't been shifted in many a moon. These require an appropriately sized box spanner and an awful lot of ignorance to undo. Not for the fainthearted and you must be extra careful not to transfer the forces required onto the pipework.
