Dripping shower

Options
HI everyone. My Mira shower is dripping and getting gradually worse! Will I just need to replace a washer or will it be a new shower I need.

Ideally I could do with putting a new hose and shower head on it anyway, but was just wondering what the main reasons for a shower dripping are? Can you tell I have no clue about these things?

So is it a thermostatic mixer or a manual mixer? In either case you won't need a whole new shower but you may need some new seals or in the worst case if its a thermo a new cartridge.

    Cheers

  • I really am not sure what a thermostatic mixer or a manual mixer is? The shower is just one big knob on the wall and you turn it to the temperature you want, if you want it extra hot it has a boost button. Sorry to be so vague, does that help?

Thanks for the replies so far guys xx

Sounds like a new cartridge is required, about £100 + fitting normally.

You will need to find out its model type and then dependent on that either a washer kit at about £15 or a screw in cartridge at about £100, costs for fitting will vary, won't take a decent plumber any longer than 30 mins to replace the cartridge, for a full valve strip down and replacement of washers etc then maybe 1/2 a day.
Just seen your last post, the cartridge will have gone, these are sealed units and cant be fixed :( so your looking at replacing the cartridge.

  • Thankyou everyone, I will look into it more. The shower was in the house when we moved in and I haven't a clue which model type it is, all it says on it is Mira. Thanks again, x

  • Thanks Canucklehead! It doesn't have our shower, but it seems that I might need this new cartridge. Can you change these without retiling? Or is the bit you need to get to behind the tiles. The shower is like this but different. It has a plastic knob with metal sides rather than all metal
