What about putting down some clear plastic carpet runner either side of the door way.

The cats also scratch to trim their claws, if they're not getting outside as much they will scratch at the carpet and other surfaces.
Do they have a scratch post? If so move it to the door way when you go out. Or just put something there why you are out.

Oh god don't mention taking it's claws out! OH doesn't like my cats and keeps saying "Take them to the vets and get them de-clawed " I told him that 1) I wouldn't do that anyways and 2) I'm pretty sure it's illegal. He bases his info that one of his friends got their cat de-clawed (I'm sure that's a lie on their part)

I'd like to state before people jump in with the "Get rid of your OH, he's cruel remarks" that he is joking! and only says it when he is mad at them, for eating my carpet or stealing his steak the other week....

I'd need a lot of lemons for the Xmas tree!! They seem to like fighting underneath it, amongst all the wrapping paper. It's a cats dream! Shame it's not mine lol

have you tried putting tin foil around the bottom? My cat used to keep going behind the tv and biting the wires so I put tin foil there for a few weeks and she doesn't go behind there at all anymore?

I know how you feel about the tree, mine has been on the floor 4 times this week and the branches have been bent out of shape from coco attempting to make a nest in the middle!

This is a recent thing, and I know the reason for it, he wants into the living room. They are being shut out of the living room right now because I want my Christmas tree intact for Christmas (having quite a few people over) and last year I ended up taking the tree down before Christmas as it was such a stress! (I also don't trust them unsupervised around the Christmas tree lights)

So I have a good feeling it's the youngest cat doing it, so the corner of my carpet near the door to the living room is a mess! It's all frayed and you can see to the floor (we were out last night and came home to that) I was like :eek: Combine my raggy carpets with the wallpaper he's managed to tear off, I must have a right nasty looking house now!

Q is - Is there anything I can put down (citrus fruit?) to stop him scratching at that piece of carpet (I'm not out much, and won't be in the next few days either but I do have a few app's and at night time they get shut out too) It's only to last until the 25th, with hopefully, no more damage to the carpet.

What about one of those floor mat scratching things? Are they easily moved? Cause I can see he would flip it out the way with his paw to get to what he wants!

lay some kitchen foil on that area of carpet, cats hate it!! and wont go near it, after a while they may get the hint :) also it works around the base of your christmas tree if you have problems with them climbing it :)

Oh will have to try the foil, for now, the big hoover stuck over the offending patch has deterred him, and hides the unsightly ripped up carpet

He's just been sooooo naughty lately, just caught him trying to chew up the brakes on DD's bike....weirdo cat.
