Unfortunately not, starlite and for good reasons. It would involve a certain amount of trust between members, swapping details like addresses etc too. This is against the rules of the site to avoid any problems (and it has in the past.)

There is a message from Martin explaining this. I'll look for it and paste it on here for you to read.

    Here's what Martin has said:
For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

What I hadn't noticed before is that he's said it's for legal reasons.

I am a member of another site where members do swap things occasionally. I waited a while for something someone was going to send me, politely pm'd her asking about it, was told it was on its way, never arrived etc etc. These kinds of things on that site can build up resentment and does cause arguments.

yes that does happen. Although i took part in a craft swap on another forum a while ago which went okay.

The only way to do it would be through an independent dedicated forum, with a disclaimer if anything went wrong.

Starlite, like your idea about craft-alongs :T - maybe it could be linked to making christmas presents and suchlike. Fun and money-saving!
Although, if you're anything like me, the savings on presents will eaten up buying more craft things! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes but to be honest to keep in line with the whole MSE thing, it shouldn't be turned into a crafting board, not trying to be mean here but there are plenty of craft and how to sites all over.

What we should be looking at is the money saving side of crafts, how to make costumes cheapily, where to get cheap supplies from and maybe the odd challenge here or there, where the real bargains are to be found and projects for saving money at christmas etc.

Maybe if someone wants to learn a craft and someone else has the expertise then a little tuition could be offered by PM?

I wonder how it would work if it was split into different sub boards like cleaning, cooking, crafts and mending, gardening? I like the idea of having specific sub boards for different things, but if it got too seperate, some of the community feel might disappear? (I was thinking that a gardening/growing your own food sub board might be good which is why I'm wondering why stop at a mending/crafts board.)

OS Household Management = cleaning, cooking?
Hobbies = crafts/mending? (or is mending a part of household management?)
Gardening = gardening/grow your own? (or would gardening be classed as a 'hobby' or a part of household management, or DIY? )

But doesn't the aspects I've hightlighted already come under the Shop But Don't Drop forum, with this one being covered in the (admittedly exceedingly long and off putting to read through!) Christmas thread??

That's an interesting suggestion, my initial thought on that would be, by covering the topic via PM means that it would exclude everyone else who may be interested either at the time or at a later date and the person giving the advice via PM may then have to repeat that advice at another time if someone else wishes for assistance - by having help within a thread, it is accessable to many.

I think its a great idea - also I understand why we couldnt do swaps on here but haven't some people set up a yahoo group to swap seeds. Maybe this could be done too for crafts if the need was there?

Good point Queenie! Trouble is I don't usually go looking in Shop But Don't Drop for Craft Supplies which is why I didn't think of it.

The PM's - you've also got a good point, I'm just worried that if it looks as though we are moving too far away from the money saving angle that it could cause a lot of upset. Maybe we could just point people in the direction of craft sites that are instructional and just ask for help when we get stuck on something. I know I'm carp at following written instructions anyway, I need to see something done before I get the hang of it, maybe we could share ideas where to find local classes?
