Need an idiots guide to dogs......

I can see why you may think that a timid dog may not like the crate but I think it may be just the opposite - she may actually like being in there, adopt it as her "den" (not pee/poo in there) and not wander off around the house to pee/poo everywhere...
Dog crates are nto meant to be used as/seen as a form of punishement - if used well, they are a great traning aid
I am sure other people will come with various other comments/solution - right now they are all probably still sleeping or dog walking or... Xmas shopping

            Thanks FC,
Do you do half hourly overnight? or drop to hourly? (she does pee quite a bit over night)
It was recomended taking up water at 1900 to stop this (but seemed mean) and in humans concentrated wee is harsher and an irritant to the bladder so you wee just as much..... so ipsofacto would it not make her go just as much?
Tyger
Does she go through the night clean at home? I do not agree with taking water up at night, for the reasons you suggest.0 -

Ok to learn a bit more about crating a dog... (only have experience with cats who HATE their crates even though they are left out so to be familiar)
how do you get Pip to take on the crate as a den?
If we are out you leave food and water in there?
Do you put the bed in there at night?
How long to leave a dog in there?
Pip gets scared alot and has a bolt hole in the bedroom would this be the best place for it? but its far from the back door for letting out to pee. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
            1) Never force a dog into a crate
2) Yes, put a bed in there, some treats/interesting toys to start with to encourage the dog to go in on his/her own
3) Yes, you can put water and food in the crate, actually that is the best way to encourage the dog to go in there - only feed in the crate (with the door open) so to encourage the dog to go in there
4) I know people who lock the dog in their crates for up to 4 hours at a time when they have to go out.. I personally never done it but....
You may want to look on Gumtree for a second hand dog crate, it will be surely cheaper than having to replace all carpets

            Hello again FC,
At her normal home she is dry overnight.
Here she will get up in the early hours and go pee in the bathroom just below the loo. Prime spot for unsuspecting barefooted sleepy peeps to step in first thing on a cold morn....Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
Oh - do not have a Facebook account (Am I the only one who refuses to give in to Facebook? LOL).
If you right click on the photo, choose "properties", copy the link from there and paste it in here using the "insert image" icon.. it should work.0 -

May be worth popping out with her once overnight then.
If she is peeing in the bathroom, it may be because she can smell wee in there - when I was a kid I remember my dog following me to the bathroom, and when I sat on the loo to pee she squtted down and peed on the carpet - I never let her in there after that!
Is she given the run of the house overnight?0 -

Ah, I see you are trying to upload from your hard drive... not gonna work.
Also they are png files, may not work on here, yu may need to convert into jpeg first...
You would have to have a photo uploaded on the web somewhere for this to work.
Like on Photobucket for example....0 -

Tygermoth - upload your photos to Photobucket:
https://www.photobucket.com
Then you can put them on here
I am sure everyone wants to see the dog in question
