Looking to reduce my orange phone bill, but 4 months off end of contract...

Hi all! I was wondering if someone could possibly help me out with the following..

Basically my current situation is this:

1 - Been with orange for 5-6 years.
2 - Been on a £35ppm 200 mins cross-network tariff for last 2 years
3 - Contract due for renewal october (3-4 months away)
4 - Currently spending 100-130 a month on calls and have been for as long as I remember

Now, ive been speaking to friends, reading this board etc and quite frankly it's frustrating me that there seem to be much much better offers around, and there have been for a while. I saw one for O2 retention that was offering 750 X network mins for £17.50???

Anyway, i really need to cut my phonebill down as I need to save for a mortgage. I dont even use it all that much, i just get stung for minutes over my 200. My question is, am I likely to have much joy ringing orange at this stage in my contract and trying to get a better deal, with a threat of leaving when my contact runs out (or reducing it down to the lowest tariff and leaving asap) - Does anyone know what current offers they're giving, or what would be a realsitic 'package' to ask for, based on my spend (which apparently classes me as a heavy user in their systems)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you can ask for an early upgrade especially as you are spending so much.
they should fall over themselves to keep you.
the only problem is that you have to see out your contract.
you could ask to be put on the lowest tariff, then pay it off and ask for the pac code.
either way they might make you an offer.

You are paying £35 + £65 for extra calls.
Taking an average call costs around 25 to 30 p
this extra £65 means you are calling around 215 to 260 extra minutes.
    Thats £100 for 415 to 460 minutes.

You still got a few months to upgrade.....

Why dont you call 150 and ask them to put you on a higher tarrif. (No upgrade, just a tarrif change. I have done it many times.)

Previously there was orange premier for £55 with 900 minutes and priority CS.
I dont know what tarrifs they got now, but you can ask for one with at least 600 minutes. That would still be under £50.

    You will save over 45.

Yes - I would go with a higher tariff to get more inclusive minutes and reduce the overall bill. Then, if you want to stay with Orange in 4 months time, you should be in a stronger position to negotiate for more.

I moved a phone down to the lowest tariff and then called up to have it disconnected today - still 3 months remaining on the minimum term. I wasn't asked why I wanted it disconnected and no attempt to keep my custom was made.

Thanks for all the good advice. I think I'll ring them and try to get put on a higher tariff for now then, as it would obviously be cheaper... then really go for a good deal when i renew. I'll let you know if they offer me anything anyway!
