Money management in schools...

I believe the reason for this is simply that the company wants to work in its community
no company wastes it's resources on community aid, if there is little prospect of reward.
Assisting the community is all about raising a company's profile.
As I mentioned earlier...the company's logo will be prominent on every leaflet......if you like, it is a form of brainwashing.
When I was at junior school, many years ago, we used to do 'projects'...with the objective of contacting companies who were active in that area, to gather bumph to put together as a project.
Many different companies replied, from oil to cocoa [my two projects]..BP and Cadbury, in this instance.
SOmeone in those companies was paid to project the company image..[within the minds of 9 year olds!!].....
Later on, I doubt very much whether BP would want to trumpet the fact that they were primarily the instigator of the current troubles in Iraq, through their colonialist dominance in that area from 1950 through to the early 70's.
PR, raising company profile..or indeed, influencing how people think, is what it's all about.
Right now....given that the major financial institutions are having to face up to the fact that their past actions have resulted in massive personal debt, unemployment and financial/economic depression......I imagine they are falling head-over-heels to instigate 'damage-limitation', and enhance a battered public image.
'volunteers?'
that's doing it on the cheap, the titewads. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Comapanies are nothing more than a collection of individuals. This means they tend to sometimes have good motives and sometimes bad one. To assume that companies are all bad or all good is going a stage too far imo. Many companies do quite a lot of work for charity and really don't get much PR out of it. One benefit is that it makes staff feel good to work for the company and allows them to develop new skills.0

i suppose these staff in the advert just happened to have a film crew and production team with them.Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

individuals they may be, but their loyalty lies with the Company they work for...their managers, directors, shareholders.
Companies are only as good, or bad,as their leadership.
What I do maintain is that no company does anything, with their name attached, without it primarily being of benefit to that company.
It is that which we should not forget.

While i think teaching kids the value of money is a good idea.. i don't think the majority of people can 'blame' someone for not telling them that if they borrow money.... they need to pay it back and if they borrow too much they might stuggle... or find it impossible to pay back.
Isn't it a simple rule of life? Nothing is free? Companies will try and screw you for every penny... so when you get that lovely store card letting you buy 500 pounds of xmas pressies there and then.... obviously they are taking you for a rise.. unless you have the cash to pay it off.
Are we saying that our children are not intelligent enough to realise a simple concept of borrowing?
I think its more down to ' worry about it tomorrow'... than understanding borrowing money. Borrowing money.. is shifting your wealth from the future.. into the present.... thats all. Of course when you go bankrupt you get a 'reset' button which is nice... but nobody starts borrowing aiming to go bankrupt...0 -
'Reset' button? Which is NICE? I can't even begin to argue with that statement to be honest, I am about to go bankrupt tomorrow and if I spend too much energy on a comment like that I'm likely to cause offense.
You sound as though you have been brought up to ignore all the advertising and money being thrown at you for what the bank spend a lot of money on making you believe it is free. (and the bank I have been with for many years are currently trying to give me more debt to 'help' me in my situation- increase my overdraft to make loan payments
)
Unfortunately a lot of people haven't been brought up that way and whilst I would NEVER blame parents or schools for not warning me about this situation I find myself in, I think my original point still stands, 'Yes educate children in money management, but do not allow a bank that makes a lot of money out of people not being able to manage thier money very well take the responsibility for it'.
I for one have learnt the hard way and I will of course be teaching my children the value of money from a very young age, therefore if the banks are going to be allowed to advertise to children in school (and sugar coat it as 'educating' them) then at least my children will know thats exactly what it is, advertising, and take it for what it is...0
