Money management in schools...

Hi all,

I am sat wrapping christmas presents and watching baby programs and I just saw a lovely little advert from Natwest, about the "Money management classes" they have been doing in schools recently. Now whilst I completely agree with teaching children about money management. Am I the only one that thinks a bank who are (in my experience) only looking to make as much money as possible out of people's bad money management aren't the right people for the job?

Ok maybe its just me and I don't want to open a can of worms but I really don't think I am comfortable with them 'educating' my children.......

hmmm...i've not seen these adverts...i definitely think that money management should be part of education....but education by a bank? don't like that...
  • I've been saying for a long time that they should teach children about money matters rather than some other questionable subjects and I would have benefited from this myself, but to allow banks to teach these children?.... Luckily I have learnt a LOT recently about money and will be able to teach my children these lessons myself.
I'm glad its not just me that this makes uncomfortable.

Absolutely right....the Banks are looking for their future customers by undertaking this exercise....no matter how much they plead otherwise. BTW that is my personal experience as an ex-banker ( ooops did I actually say that out loud:rolleyes::o:o).

    Someone said recently....

`remember that Banks are ONLY in business to make profit...ignore that fact at your peril`

Thankfully most adults realise this but unforunately the younger/school age generation do not..

My personal view is that CAB/ Gov / Education Depts should put this vital `life skill` into the national curriculum.

Don`t let the Banks brainwash our kids.:eek:

Sorry....I`ll get off my soap box now:o:o

    I don't like that!

I'll be teaching my children everything they need to know about money and I am thankful for being strong enough to get through this mess if only to save my children from going through the same thing in their lives.

Education is so important if we want/have to live in this get now pay later world.

But not by the money making machines themsleves. The very first lesson every body needs to learn is banks are there to make money and keep their shareholder happy, they're not there to help us so certainly not there to educate young ones. The most ridiculus thing I've heard in a long time!

I would have been 14 in 1994 and never done money management in school.
