Money management in schools...

I left school in 2000 and I didn't see any of it....I am in Wales though, didn't get much sex education either.... THAT explains my current situation lol sorry only joking.
I am amazed at this I really am, I didn't want to jump on the soap box too quickly but as you are already up there...
This is the bank that because I missed ONE loan payment by a week or two they blocked all my accounts when I was (am) heavily pregnant in another city with no money and a toddler to deal with. Will they explain to my little girl why she had to sit in her pram getting cold and upset whilst her mummy had to spend 45 mins on the phone to them to be able to get money out to go home? Maybe they should-

DH is a teacher and says they have been doing it for years.
Didn't Martin do a a thing for teaching in schools? Will have a look for it tomorrow, need my bed been dealing with kids half the night.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
have you seen the bit where they ask the group of kids what a standing order is.
surely crying out for a spoof where the person asks the kids what a loan is and the kid replies with yes "its when your parent company asks the government for £60,000,000,000 to stop it going under"

HAHAHA! I love that! EXACTLY MY POINT!!
I am a very ummmmm proud (?) mother and I just don't get how it has been allowed that a bank can enter our schools and teach our children about money! I don't believe in 'rubbishing' what children are taught in school, but this makes it nearly impossible!
I suppose I could be wrong as what they are teaching may be accurate and beneficial to the future generations, but even so its the wrong people to be doing it in my opinion.0 -
Forget the soapbox - wheel in a platform, I'm getting up too.
I never had money lessons at school either and more importantly never has my son currently in primary ed (he has had excellent sex and moral ed though!).
I work in a local authority nursery (3-5) and this year we asked our parents to allow the children to save up a couple of pounds in nursery to allow the kids to go Christmas shopping. They saved about 20p a week and the children saved the money in their own wee nursery bank.
They were then able to spend their couple of pounds or whatever, on something for mum or dad.
All the children saved something - some more than others, but no one had more than £3.00, and they all got the message - only spend the pennies you have in your hand.
Its never to early to start.
Nat West going into schools...... I ask you? Gawd help us if Northern Rock try it!!!Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper .

As a br myself, I would love the chance to go into schools (probably high schools) and talk to the students about my own experience.
Explaining just how I got into my own mess. I would like to think that maybe some of these younger people would think twice about getting into debt if they heard my story.
Maybe the government should think about "employing" us to do this because no matter what they say on the news/in papers there is never a better person to talk about things than somebody who has gone through it all themselves.0 -
Banks don't want people borrowing more than they can afford and the level is likely to be around what is saving, how interest rates, etc. I think it is a good thing that companies seek to contribute something towards society and I am sure they aren't going to be brainwashing children into acquiring huge debts.0

Martin would be the ideal person/format for teaching money-matters in schools...but that would be incredibly unpopular with teh banks....who hold the government's purse strings???No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
