From the limited info you gave I assumed a few things,

    1) You were a single Mum
    2) You have dept (dont we all!)
    3) You took her son away from your mother-in-law
(the last one confused me if I am wrong ignore it)
    4) Your ex partner lost his job and I assume cant pay support??

The mother in law probably thinks that this is not a very positive "lifestyle" change for her son, I expect she wanted her Son to meet a virgin, get married and make her lots of grandchildren, its probably all a bit of a blow to her. Just hope that in time she will come to accept you and try and keep hostility to a minimum, I dont see what else you can do??

    Good luck :)

i don't have any advice for mil problems but just wanted to send you a hug and say i hope you get well soon.

perhaps you're not her idea of the perfect daughter in law, but you are her son's idea of the perfect woman and that's what matters.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I totally sympathise as I too have the mother in law from hell. We have caller display on our phone and I never answer if it is her or father in law calling. I haven't seen them for over a year now. OH does keep in touch with them (he speaks on the phone to them a couple of times a week) but rarely visits.

I am lucky in that OH is always on my side - he has never really got on with his parents, particularly his mother - and does stand up to them.

I think you're best just having nothing to do with her, she sounds like a nasty piece of work just like my mil. Her words to me as we had just got married were "well I'll give it a year if you're lucky". Nice woman eh? Must make her sick that we have been married for 27 years!!!!!!

If I were you i would cut her out of my life completely! Tell him that and leave him to see her if he wants but she cant control you just because she doesnt like the set up - thats her problem, maybe she'll come round one day and maybe she wont but would you let a stranger treat you this way ? I bet the answer is no so dont let anyone else do it.

Good luck - I hope it all works out for you .

    Debt-free and Proud!
Really sympathise with you on this one, hubby cut his WHOLE family off 5 years ago after their dreadfull behaviour, not going into detail,we have no idea what we had done, but the venom that came out was too much to put up with.I have tried a couple of times to build bridges but they don't want to know, they don't even know they have a 2 year old grandaughter!!! as they refuse to talk to us,I am now fed up fighting to reconcile hubby with his family that I too have given up on them.Sad thing is their grandson doesn't know who they are and probably never will.
I believe life is too short for all this malice, but flogging a dead horse also springs to mind.
