Is the wireless turned on - there is a keyboard shortcut Fn + F9 to turn it on/off.0
-
yes.... pressing "fn and F9" and logo comes on in middle of screen saying "wireless lan on" .. ( or press again says "wireless lan off") .... but nothing else seems to change ,... see nothing differrent on the network connections page ?... which shows ...
a couple of "dial up" connections ... for my uk t mob broadband ? dongle
under LAN or high sp int shows "local area connection ..... network cable unplugged , firewalled ... marvell......
and under "virtual private network" shows "aol disconnected".
On my task bar there is also a "my bluetooth places" ... which i presume is something totally differrent ?
You can see i´m a complete non techie !!
thanks0 -
Ok. a few things to check:
- When you turn on the wireless, an LED should turn on as well.
- If you go to device manager, does it list a wireless device under Network Adapters, along with the wired.
- Do you get a wireless icon on the taskbar near the clock, and can you "search for available networks"
- Have you tried using the supplied 'Easy Network Manager' software to get a connection.0 -

It sounds like the OP needs to use the software to create the Network Connection?0 -
Whilst in the UK did the wireless work here?0
-
busenbust... don't know .. new machine .. only set it up when wired. This was the first time i came to use it when arriving here.0
-
^Just wondering whether this a proxy (non UK) problem, as opposed to wireless - hardware wise - not functioning.0
-
davb .... will check when i get back to hotel.. think the answers are no ... just the detail i gave earlier ?0
-
davb.... ok ... this machine is driving me mad !! .. wasted hours trying to sort .
The wireless blue led is showing on front of machine .
gone through "easy network manager ... but got stuck ....
i did 1) selected "cafe" ..
did 2) select connection type ... "direct connection" ... presume correct
get to 3) device name .... but all that is in the box is the Marvell ethernet" ... whereas guide showed there should be choices including wireless ...
so i´m stuck again . !!!!
instructions said to try "automove" or "diagnosis" .. but both are greyed out and won´t click.
So no idea what to do . Neighbour looked at it and gave up also.
Need to be able to work tomorrow .. if i can´t get on in my apartment wielessly .. i´ll have to go out & buy a dongle & top up .. 70 pounds upwards i´m told !!
help !! .. why is nothing easy with computers !!0 -
This is the fundamental thing, as if it isn't listed here (when it's turned on) then you are going nowhere. If you go to device manager, does it list a wireless device under Network Adapters, along with the wired.
Access device manger via Control Panel >Performance and Maintenance >System >Hardware Tab >Device Manger
My take would be:
- If it is listed, then it's probably a setup issue, most likely 'Easy Network Manager'
- If there is a yellow exclamation mark against it, or elsewhere if it's not listed, then it's either a faulty wireless or needs a driver update (or reinstall it from the driver CD)
- If it's not listed and there are no yellow exclamation marks, then the wireless is either faulty, missing, or disabled in BIOS.0
