Update;
Well it's all happened today.
We spoke to ebuyer who said Parcelforce told them they couldn't deliver on Saturday as it wasn;t the usual driver on the route and he couldn't find our house....
They assured us it was out for delivery today.
We got our money back for postage off ebuyer
Then at about 12 Parcelforce's website said my package had been signed for!!! I had had no knock and apparently it had been signed by the addressee.... (illegible scribble as the signature)
I found the direct number to the Solent depot on saynoto0870.com and called them and launch a tirade basically (I may have called their delivery driver a liar more than once... but by this time I was frustrated that 2 !!!! ups had affected my 1 delivery!!)... the lady put me on hold and phoned the driver who had apparently realised what he had done and already retrieved the package and that it would be with us 'soon'
at 3pm he turned up... sigh, he apologised and said that if we were polite to the shop we could get our money back haha. what a farce!!
most likely faking the tracking data so they meet the 12 deadline0 -
As Custardy says, by saying the had attempted delivery it shows on the system as everything being OK, so they can bill the customer the full amount and it keeps their Key Performance Indicators in the green. Otherwise it would show as a failed delivery and the customer (Ebuyer) would likely not have to pay.
As has been said, get a refund from Ebuyer for the Saturday delivery, and get them to report it to their PF contract manager, who should then chase up the depot about their record keeping!!!!0 -
This happend to me once a delivery before 12pm. The driver got stuck behind train station gates and marked my delivery as attempted at 11:58am. but turned up at 12:10.
Shouldn't be allowed to do this.0 -

If the reason for a parcel being late is outside of the control of the driver/depot then it can legitimately be 'held' (there on options on the scanners for a range of reasons). The contract between the retailer and the courier will have a clause to deal with this. This is often abused by carriers in order to preserve the Quality of Service figures, but it seems like there was a valid reason in this case. The driver was obviously delayed but knew that he would arrive soon after 12:00. What they should have done was to choose a more descriptive reason from the list on the scanner.0
