Did we overpay on our bill?

in Water bills
We moved into our flat last september. We have 2 bedrooms although one is not suitable to be used as that so it is an office instead. We have a 2 year old and are billed by southern water without a meter. I read somewhere that our bills are higher as we live close to the sea but was shocked when we received our first one last year for £89 per month. We are on a tight budget and this would have stretched us to our limits so I called up to question it. We were told that it is correct but if we cant afford that we can pay just £69 per month instead. This still seemed a lot but went along with it for about 10 months. after a year our bill was dropped to £42 without an explanation and I have always wondered if there was an error somewhere but am so reluctant to call them up incase they want to raise it again to £89. It just seems to get made up as they go along. Any advice?
We considered getting a meter fitted but dont know how long we want to stay in this place especially as they are going to be raising council tax and water rates again next april.

Welcome to the Forum.
Look at the Rateable Value(RV) on your bill. From that you can work out exactly - to a penny - how much your bill will be. You need to look at Southern water's website to get the rates.
I would be pretty certain that a 2 bed flat in Southern water would be nothing like £89.

If you find your rateable value of your bill then you can calculate what your bill should be from the website below

Getting a water meter fitted doesn't affect how long you can stay in the property and it should save you money - mine is less than £20 a month for two adults!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
