Humax PVR 9300T

Got this a few months ago and really pleased with it BUT it does freeze now and then and I read that a software patch would cure this. Ive tried doing an update software but it says none available.

Anyone had the same problem and overcome it please?

  • I have the older 9200T, and there has been issues since the Freeview re-jig earlier in the year.

The over the air update won't work unless the software is currently being transmitted, which doesn't appear to be the case looking at the DTG list

It can be done manually, if you have a laptop and the right cable.

I've had a few hard drive TV units freeze now and then, then permanently so I ended up buying a Humax as I believed them to be the best... but the same thing happened.
No one can give me an explanation so I expect it's down to dirty mains.
    Hopefully that's not your problem
  • All these Freeview recorders freeze at least occasionally, it's a very flaky technology.

The 9300T cannot be updated manually via a laptop as the USB port is not live.

I'm hoping that a more reliable Freeview recorder will come onto the market once the analogue signal has actually been switched off.

My old 9200T used to freeze quite often, sometimes 2-3 times a week, I'd come in & find none of my fave programmes recorded & the machine would need a cold start. I used to think it was just a poor quality product. After the hard disk started to fail, I risked getting another Humax (9300) but this freezes nearly as much. I guess the weather plays a major part in the quality of the signal too though. When it was snowing on Friday, I went into the settings and watched the signal & quality bars drift between 40%-60%.

I disagree regarding flaky technology its more reliable than computers in my view

I have several Humax pvrs and have a new one for Xmas for my daughter who has a 7 year old Humax 8000 (40gb), occasionally a manual default reset solves any issues with Humax

I heard on grapevine there is a new update on horizon sometime in next month or so along with upgrade to Humax HDR

We bought a 9300 to replace our dodgy old digifusion PVR, having seen great reviews.

Trouble is - the damn thing records for hours after a show has finished. A half hour show will keep recording for two or three hours. Never freezes though!!

The 9300T cannot be updated manually via a laptop as the USB port is not live.

As stated by CHR15, the serial port is used for software updates. The serial port is slow, and from experience, it can sometimes be a little flakey, however, I have done it a few times with my 9200T and had no problem at all.

One other step to try is to set the Humax box to default settings (a hard reset). However, you will lose what ever you have in your schedule to record - though your recordings will remain intact. [Instructions/details]

The reports I've seen online suggest that the Humax boxes become more reliable once your transmission area goes fully digital.

Roll on 2011 for me!

I think sundin13's issue might be fixed by a full reset too.
