Elfen, my sympathies - my sister can't afford presents then expects expensive ones from us! And has strange priorities too.

Pooky, I think sometimes when someone's coming to terms with disability you have to let them make their own mistakes and realise their limitations themselves, however hard it is for you to watch. I know it's been the case with my illnesses, I've had to learn to listen to and understand my body, rather than expecting my body to bend to my will.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Such a good point, i agree with that even as. someone who has had a life long disability. You seem much more sensible than I was at your age:rotfl:

I am happy for him test his limits but sometimes I need to remind him that doing something you know you can't, that's going to make you sore and grumpy for hours/days afterwards, has a knock on effect for me and DD's...it's not fair for them to go without his company or affections because he was being stubborn.

That sounds very selfish of me but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Pooky I did Nigella's recipe of

Chocolate melted with golden syrup and butter, Marshmallows, brazil nuts, amaretti biscuits (I made these myself) and glace cherries.

I shall be making some next year for presents thats for sure, its yummy.
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

Thanks Pooky, I think I've got a Lidl just up the road (or it might be Aldi, I always get them mixed up!).

Well, I've just tried to make my xmas cake. I really should have read the recipe before starting.

Problem 1 - it needed 3 large mixing bowls. I have 1 medium one. Although I've discovered pans work just as well.

Problem 2 - it needs baking parchment. I have none. So I'll have to leave the mixture till morning when I can go get some.

Problem 3 - the mixture looks to be about twice as much as the cake tin will hold. At least. So I'll be making 2 cakes instead of one, although from what I know about fruit cakes I'll be able to leave the second one till next year, I think.

I've also 'adapted' the recipe slightly - taking out things I don't like and putting in more of the things I do, but that should be ok.

You'll be eating christmas cake for months Ames :D

I don't make christmas cake/pudding/mince pies as none of us eat them....I do however make my own body weight in sausage rolls and cheese straws ;)

Ames - she's the same one who asked my lil workaholic sister for an iPod for her birthday! And my eldest sister is just as bad, trying to nosey into my mum and dad's finances and trying to one-up my lil sis who gets herself really nice stuff as a) she can afford it as she works up to 20 days in a row, and b) who doesn't waste her money on tat like my sis does.

I admit I have probs with money sometimes, but when I'm depressed I start to spend, and I know it's the slope down. But, I haves a plan. Go to GP and see if they can refer to an exercise program run to help people with depression, also beg the GP to give me a coil so I don't get so down when the red army come which badly affects my mood (was wandering in town wanting to punch people last night) and start a healthy eating thing. It's NOT a diet, as there's a possibility I'll go nuts on it again.
