Broaband with no phone line?

Hi Everyone,
I've just moved into a new house and I don't have a phone line although the previous owners had a BT line.
I want to to get broadband - but don't really want a phone line or cable TV.
I will get a phoneline or cable tv to enable me to get cheap broadband. But it's the broadband I really want!
Does anyone have any idea what I'd be best doing - currently I'm thinking of getting BT line rental and then another provider for the broadband and not bothering with a calls provider. Is this even possible!?
I'm confused please help!
Thanks,
Barry

Welcome to the forums.
If the previous occupants had a BT line they will most probably re-activate it for you at no cost to you.
The price of having an new BT line installed has recently gone up to about £125.
It depends where you are as you may be able to get a better internet only deal from from a cable company. If you have a BT line you will have to pay line rental whether you make any call or not and your ISP is charged seperately.
BT have just announced some new packages which include internet see here but make sure that it is exactly what you want!

Cable providers will provide just the broadband, so you dont need the phone line or the TV, this is what i plan todo.
However, it is worth looking into all the deals and packages they have available, for example they often bundle many packages together, phone, tv and broadband for a price thats only marginally more expensive than just using their broadband.
If this option doesn't suit then companies like bulldog who provide the telephone line and broadband package often have good deals for the bundle. however, bulldog i think, aren't taking on any new residential customers, dont quote me on that though.
Hope something there helps

You need to know what your options are first so put your phone number or post code into www.samknows.co.uk
That will show you if you can get ADSL and at what speeds plus it'll show you if you can get cable or broadband via an LLU provider.Tight fisted accountant since birth.0 -
Hi,
I got a circular through the door yesterday saying wireless broadband from https://www.now.com and no phone line needed.
Hope this helps.Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...0 -
I think www.adslguide.org.uk is a far better resource for information on ADSL ISPs. And SamKnows.com is better for showing coverage of LLU & wireless ISPs.
All the Broadband Watchdog checker could tell me was "You are covered by BT ADSL". :rolleyes:0 -
Best one by far: http://www.adslchecker.bt.com/pls/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
Use that to see if you can get ADSL then obviously decide which ISP you want.
Samknows like you said is good for finding out the LLU coverage!

Thanks Everybody.
After a bit of research I'm going to go with a telewest offer. £14.99 a month for 2Mbps unlimited broadband with no phone or tv service.
Not a great price but it suits my needs...
