To answer the question of you getting a replacement. You will get one after the 28days has expired. It is a DSG company policy that if a product takes more than 28 days to repair whilst under the manufacturers guarantee period it get sswapped, this also includes if a product comes back from repair but the same fault is still present. If the product had been under one of their extended warranty the rules have chanegd since I last worked for the group so can't quote on them, it used to be 42days.
In your case take your paperwork in tomorrow stating when the laptop was handed in for repair. As long as the dates add up to 28 days they swap it instore. The laptop will still probably still go away for repair but they will sell it as a refurb later on when it comes back. I would also ask for them to allow you to back up your files and then reformat the drive to at least remove trace of your files from the casual viewer.

Oneday, how could they allow me to back up the files? Do you mean that they'd let me do it in the shop? As you say i would definitely want to reformat it. Theres nothing particularly personal on there other than photos of myself, friends and family which i wouldnt want any old Curry's worker looking at.
  • You should already have a backup from the weekly one you're supposed to do....

Still looking for Currys local store telephone number?

    There are many on Saynoto0870.
Don't know if they're all there though.

If it's away for repair, there'll be no chance of rescuing the files; it'll be data-wiped before it's returned to the store.

If you booked it in via store, you'll have signed a repair docket saying you are responsible for the data.

You're right, and i do. But the data is all still on the laptop as i didnt expect this to happen.

Esqui, why would they wipe it when its away for repair? Or do you mean they would do it knowing its no longer going back to me?
I'm going there tomorrow, and its scheduled to be collected by a courier on Monday

If it's not coming back to you, it'd be wiped. If it is coming back to you, then they obviously won't (unless it happened as part of the repair process, e.g. new hard drive)

Thanks Esqui that makes sense. Do you think i'd have any chance of being able to take away both a new one and the old unfixed one?
