i was a butchers daughter too - that's why i'm now a vegetarian! If your'e not happy with it i'd take it back and exchange/refund. I have to cook meat for my family and it would put me off, just the smell of meats bad enough.

    Keep it friendly folks!

The old-style board has always had a reputation for being friendly and helpful - what's the unpleasant/sarcastic comments all about?

We were all inexperienced at cooking/buying meat at one time - I dread to think of some of my questions when I first got married.

AND, at the ripe old age of 58, I still won't look at, sniff or touch, fish with heads/skin on because it makes me feel ill _pale_.

I don't think it would have put me off using it... but then again i do love black pudding so maybe blood doesnt fuss me - but hey, we're all different!

It certainly wont do you any harm, so if you're willing to just remove that bit you'd be okay? :)
    On the up :D

    hey :)
it wont hurt you, and i understand the worry :) - in all fairness, I have learned that it would actually add to flavour, I save all blood for my gravy stocks.
Sometimes we forget about where stuff comes from and that it was alive once, thats the food chain (not to put anyone off, or be condescending :) I myself am happily eating meat but hate to see it slaughtered, and have had my moments thinking "I am never eating meat again!" I even apologised to crabs i cooked from fresh or anything we get in thats alive - seafood wise, as i put it in the pan, i feel terrible!) If it puts you off, then exchange it, but in all honesty, its the reality. Wash it off if it turns your stomach, or remove it and it will be fine Im sure.
Dont feel bad for asking questions, we are all here to ask stuff and get replies to things we dont know or are unsure of :)

I would take it back, if that were convenient, just because I have had so much awful meat from Tesco recently (several packs of chicken went off days before BBD) that they deserve to have to deal with it! Wish I had a decent butcher here, the one down the road is rubbish...

But of course it is a shame to waste food so if you don't mind just washing it off then it won't do you any harm.

I can understand that it might look a bit offputting but its perfectly fine. just remove it or rinse it off if you prefer ;)

I grew up quite used to seeing my dad paunch rabbits, kill and prepare poultry ready for the table and I've seen black pudding made _pale_ and I still love it but I probably would have had to remove the blood clot I'm afraid!

Its interesting to see how many people who make sarcastic or superior comments on OS are not actually regular OS'ers; they obviously dont realise that on OS we are supportive and not spiteful or denigrating of other people ;) on the other hand maybe some people just have too much time on their hands :rotfl:

  • If its too much of a faff to return to the shop then put all the meat into a colonder and rinse it all under cold water.I too would probably found it a bit off putting but its as was said probably only a bit of dried blood and no harmful. My DD once bought some sliced 'Billy Bear 'cold meat in Tesco's and found it contained a metal filling from a tooth !!! needless to say she returned it to the shop straight away. She is still waiting to hear from them and it was four years ago. But she has never bought sliced meat again from anywhere
