*NEW* Thrifty Gifty - Money Making for Christmas & Occasions 2010

i have listed one item -its a start!
Also listed a dictionary on Amazon, not sure it'll sell but can give it a go. Better than getting peanuts for it on eBay.
I bought two of the FCUK black handbags that were £20. I used one for myself and got the other for a gift. Searched high and low for it, completely vanished, went out and bought something else. It's turned up during the big cupboard clear out! Don't want to give it next year as they might know its from this year.

Could you use it as a birthday or Mother's day present earlier in the year?Making money for Christmas 2012!0 -
I've been seeing comments about it possibly starting on the 14th instead, but from memory didn't it start on a Wednesday last year? If so I'm guessing it'll be a Wednesday again this year.. In which case I think 13th is the most likely day
On a side note, has anyone tried to sell a buggy/travel system and other baby bits before (stroller... moses basket..) I guess this kind of hing isn't ideal for eBay as it'll have to be either local eBayers or the postage would cause a problem?
I wondered if the local supermarket ads boards were any good, or Loot? Or is there a better alternative for baby bits?
Thanks again xx
What I did with dds was use the free adds in our local paper, we have a weekly freebie, (that was the best - sounds daft but you know what day of the week its going to be), we also have an evening paper with free adds, but thats hit and miss.
If you do a search on ebay and see what the postage is like, some people do sell them, in all honestly it does depend on the brand - Silver cross, Mamas + Pappas - mre expensive to buy.
Avoid car boots as they want something for nothing.
DDs
- changing unit + mini wardrobe - brought that 2nd hand best mate (ex con pd £60.00 she'd paid £300!!), sold that in free adds for £40.00
Mothercare buggy - (more like mini pram ) - (again same friend she'd pd £200, I paid her £40) for love nor money we couldn't sell it in papers, everyone wanted travel systems or the posh ones - sold that for £5.00 to a 2nd hand shop
Clothes - better doing a bulk package - free adds
Moses basket - free adds better
Sleeping bags - pd £18 sold them for £7.00
baby toys - they flew out of free adds.
I think with supermarket adds a lot of people don't look at them, or assume they have already gone
Weekly freebie newspaper - better one day a week, concentrated audience, be people looking for the items
Local evening paper - We did have some success, but used it as a safety net, so if it sold in the weekly, we just said it had gone earlier.
Good luck with it all.

Sorry, one more question before I venture back into the loft..
I think my wedding dress is still in our loft and though still happily married I have no sentiments over it(lets face it, I have the photos, I wouldn't be able to shoehorn myself into it even if I wanted to try and turn it into a ball gown or something else, and I doing no good stuck up in the loft!)
If it it still in good nick / will dry clean well, I'm thinking of selling it. Has anyone sucessfully sold theirs before and where did you sell it? Again I suspect eBay is not a good place for this one as people will want to (or in my mind should) see this kind of thing before buying it
My god, there will be nothing left in my house by the tme I've finished this challenge! :rotfl:April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Thanks Mum2One. Why didn't I think of he local weekly rag? Doh! I'll have a look and see if it's free to advertise or the costs otherwise. But how much more local than that can I get? LolApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500

What about a birthday present, ok its from Xmas, but on the plus side a lot of people buy in sales so would be natural.
I did that one for me, one for mates bday in March
We did the same with the Elle bags, (esp when our store had them back on for 3 4 2 at £26.00 discount), useing them for bday prezzies.
I always work on the basis you can get away with bday, xmas looks a bit tight - (what I do, I'm a tight wad - (money saver), if its a boxed product, say like boots maturals collection, take them out of box, pop them in a basket or in the cello wrap with a sponge or something extra, just looks like I've brought them off the shelf and made an effort for them to be presented properly.... Everyones happy. xx

Moist weeklys are fee to advertise in, ours is free if under £200.00, it comes out on a Thursday, so | am to get my add into the shop premises buy the Friday (in the hope that it will appear in the following weeks edition).
I can only go by mine, but with free adds they just tend to put everything under one section, so if I'm covering toys and games, and furniture, I tend to spread out over 2 weeks, (pain from my end - but upside you know your items are under right section).
If you have bigger toys - I find after Oct half term best bet - people buy for xmas, baby toys and accessories any time of the year.
Wedding dresses - not been there done that - but when I worked at Safeway in Dry cleaners (back in 2000), wedding dresses were considered a specalist item, we had to send them away, on average we were quoting £60+ depending on the complexitity of the dress - more detail - beading, buttons, trail etc etc all added on.
Unless its stained, I would hang in the bathroom while your having a shower / bath - steam refresh it, plus hang ourside in the fresh air.
If you can avoid dry cleaning - you won't recover the cost of the dress back.
Wedding dresses - seem to go on Ebay - you'd need a few photos (ideally being wore) every measurement going,
But again try the local paper - see how much there going for, the trouble is they don't hold their value.
(apologies I babble - my brain goes int overtime with ideas) xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Lovely, thanks again Mum2One xxx
I'll see if it's markedwhen I find it and maybe I can get away without cleaning it if so? You're right, at £60+ to gt it cleaned I wouldn't get my money back on itApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
I'd love to ebay some stuff as part of the challenage but the stuff I have to sell doesn't seem to be selling for much.
Can any recommend a good time to list a child sleeping bag?I have a good quality one I'm not going to give to charity which I want to sell but not sure when the best time is.
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
