  • Come on then, hand up who is going to take the 'healthy' shops on RE for such a fantastic return????:rotfl:Ops ignore me just re looked and there is a little fee too!

If you get called by a MS company asking you to do an urgent job how much would you (% wise I know we mustn't talk £) try to up the fee? I never know if I'm under selling myself!

It depends which company it is. I once had a job that would normally pay £15 but because they wanted it done within the next 2 hours I got to do it for £55! Obviously not an RE or Gyp assignment!

With Gyp if they ring up and ask me to do an urgent job I always try to wangle a few extra jobs out of them. This week they offered me two mini shops, a place you buy stamps and a phone shop if I did this one urgent job for them, so no extra fee but a few extra jobs.

Had RE offer me a posh sandwich job for 4 times the fee.

I recently got 4 times the fee for a 2 £10 jobs - there was a good drive involved and it covered my petrol, my time and a bit extra for going out of the way. They company may have paid more if pushed however I was happy with that fee and they agreed to it straight away. That implies I could of maybe asked for more and got it but I was happy with what I got.

I think that's the key - think about what its costing you in terms of fuel/costs/time plus a bit for doing it and if you're happy and they are happy then its a win win situation - I don't think you can put a set % mark-up on the jobs.

    MHO only :D

I've done a couple of the competitor petrol jobs this week - I thought they might be a bit of a chore but actually they're not bad at all. Anyone else found them ok?

do you say you'll do and then ask for more or just say 'mmm, i'm not sure it is worthwhile for that fee' and get them to up it?

re always phone me about the posh sandwhich jobs last minute but i don't ever see them on the site. did one of them in sept and the other in oct and not seen them since. if i saw them i prob would accept them as i quite like them!

With the job I got paid £55 they actually said staight off that if I did it in the next 2 hours they'd give me £50 for it and I said "Oh, I dont know" only because I had the kids at home and they then said "oh please, come on, we'll give you £55 if you agree to it now" so that clinched the deal for me. Hubby was home to look after the kids as it was a Saturday and the shop was less than a mile from my house!
With Gyp I straight out say "What's in it for me?, can you offer me extra jobs?" When they offer more fees the extra fee is usually really lousy - they increase it by less than their normal fee (probably just enough to buy a coffee and a doughnut somewhere) so really not worth asking for extra money. Better off to ask for a few extra jobs like Petrol or stamps and supermarkets if you can get them.

    i love the petrol jobs!!!!!
  • I've done the petrol jobs too, I found them easy but the one I did today took me ages to find as it was slightly out of my way but then again I needed to use up the petrol in my tank so I could fill up to the minimum spend!

Haven't seen them in my area before but I'd happily do them again if they come up.

I usually just ask outright what they are prepared to offer, then judge whether it is worth it. If I'm not sure, I ask them if they can add another £5/10 or whatever. It depends on the job & where it is really. I have had some very nice fees for urgent jobs and some cr**py offers too...... £5 to go 80 miles each way .... RE  - no surprises there :rotfl:. Same as everyone else with GAP - ask what they are going to give you & they will usually give three or four nice jobs for an urgent one without hesitation!

  • Regarding extra fees,if they are phoning you then they need to make you happy.
Until recently I worked for a High St retailer that used to get MSed and paid a £10 fee.As the retailer I used to get charged £120 for the pleasure and I think this might give you an idea of what you can get from the companies concerned.
Dont undersell yourself, its not just travel and petrol its your time as well.
