I think it was when there was all the to do about who starts the new MS thread when the previous thread is too long. I'm sure he said he'd had enough and would no longer post on here?

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked but just trying to fill in my tax return after being with Retail Eyes for a full year. I know I can claim expenses for printing the assignments and questionnaires but I had a question about claiming travel expenses. Do you have to prove this? Or do you just claim 40p/mile regardless of how you get there? ie. I used my annual travelcard or sometimes I did it after work so didnt buy a specific ticket or pay for petrol so have no receipts. Or am I worrying too much about this and they wont care about such a nominal amount. Any advice in the next hour or so appreciated since trying to fill it out now.

Have called the helpline but of course they are really busy. Will try again in a bit but thought I'd ask on here while I wait...

    Thanks in advance ;)

Technically you can only claim for what it cost you.

If you didn't buy the travel card for MSing then you shouldn't claim anything, or perhaps claim a propottion if you can work it out.

Do you drive and have a car? If you don't then it could be dodgy to claim mileage. I don't think they will want to check what days you work to see if you should claim leaving from that address rather than your home address. Many people might want to go home first anyway to print off paperwork etc.

Also because you have called them whatever you say needs to tally with any info you have already given/left.

Are you near to having a huge profit? (I doubt it if you only work for RE) if so the more you can throw into expenses the better. I think they will have more on their minds than checking each of your travel claims to be honest. HTH
Couldn't think of anything witty to say so just keeping the space until I can :(

Thanks for the response. I dont have a car now but did during this tax year. Do you think I would get away with claiming millage then? As sure I could find some petrol receipts and they wouldnt know when I was actually driving to these jobs would they so the petrol receipts can be from anytime as long as I have one a month I guess. Do you agree?

Alternatively I could take part of the yearly travelcard cost but doubt that would be much.

To answer your questions - no, didnt make much that year and havent called them about the expenses yet so they shouldnt have anything on file re this.

Thanks in advance for any further advice you can offer :)
