I'd love to have done that as 'Silverburn' is on my doorstep, grew up there before it was a jazzy shopping centre BUT RE never give me TAPAS think i'm too old :mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Thanx anyway

Same here! Never see them as I am "ancient" in their eyes probably!

  • I did a Tapas at lunchtime today with hubby. Didn't realise RE allowed the use of vouchers. Still, we only went £3.99 over the brief so no worries. Which of you had the pint of lager then?

ETA: On my brief it says "You must not use any form of voucher as part or full payment for your purchases. Should you do this your report will be invalidated and we will be unable to pay you for your assignment." I hope they pay you! Tell them your Mother in law didn't know you were MS-ing and produced the voucher when you asked for the bill and you had to use it 'cos it would have looked odd to say "Oh no, I want to pay full price!!"
My brief was different to previous briefs. There was no mention of ordering lager, only said that you had to order a wine and a coke and two main meals.

There was no mention of vouchers. I went through the brief with a fine tooth comb as I've done these jobs before and they've always said that you can't use the voucher.

I can't see what difference it makes to them anyway. Surely it would be better for them because then they won't have to reimburse us as much - they still spend the same on the food they cook us after all.

thank you so much for your reply. much appreciated. i was sweating away here panicking about large fines coming my way for missing the deadline!

in terms of keeping a record then, is it wise to use the spreadsheet on page 1 of this forum? do you then write the revenue a cheque when you have worked out the tax etc by jan 31st 2011? how does doing a tax return work?

You do need some form of record keeping. You can use the spreadsheet on the front page, or make your own spreadsheet, use accounts software or good old fashioned pen and paper! It doesn't matter as long as everything is accurately recorded.

If you are good and keep everything up to date, when next April comes it will just be a matter of copying figures from your records onto the tax return. Add any PAYE earnings, interest from savings or any other income. It works out the tax due for you, and tells you how to pay. It's really not as daunting as it sounds.

Have you registered as self employed yet? If not, ring the self employed helpline (number on www.hmrc.gov.uk) and they will talk you through it. You need to do that ASAP really.
Here I go again on my own....
  • I have a big handbag too and it fits in perfectly!!

Like Scubaangel, I use the free Wi-fi in MacD, Pret a Manger, Starbucks etc. I quite often finish my jobs for the day and then go for a coffee in MacD's to do my reports, (1) 'Cos there's no distractions like there are at home and (2) It keeps the MacD staff on their toes, I always make sure there is a sheet of paper with the "Gapbuster" logo on it poking out from under my notes!!!!

We must be in the same area. That b***** takes all my work too. But he/she does shove some of it back occasionally! The other thing I've noticed with GR is that they don't always seem to email notify now.

Hmm.... I wonder if you are the same area as me?
I love GR but I am constantly driven crazy by the jobs going within minutes of the emails being sent. AND I have email to my phone, which only rubs it in for me. I have hardly had any jobs with them in the past month or two.
