  • I rang the tax office back to say that I didnt think it was an income as I was not actually making any profit from it but I was getting the goods or food if the visit was to a restaurant and the girl I spoke to said she really didnt know the answer as I was not actually making any money on the visits unless there was a fee involved, I am now waiting for her to ring my back as she has to speak to hopefully someone who knows!!!

In my own case, I put down everything I have to purchase/eat etc. as a legitimate business expense, as without buying it/eating it etc. I could not do the job. I am happy that I will be able to justify it in case. However, this is certainly not advice, and I would suggest that anyone that is really worried should seek the advice of HMRC or an Accounts expert.

Same here; otherwise it isn't worth doing for the small fees you get.

I think of it as being wholly necessary to do the job; therefore it is an expense.
  • The girl from the tax office rang me back and for example I get £20 to spend at a restaurant but no fee I put the £20 in the turnover part and then the £20 in the other allowable expenses part so I end up paying no tax on the visit as I havent actually made any money and the same for anywhere else where I have not made a fee as she said it cancels itself out, so the only tax I should be paying is for any fees I have been paid which isnt very much so I am very happy and I hope this helps someone else out.

I only saw the one in Tewkesbury, but my areas are not that wide. I have just changed them to cover the major cities but I think I will get fed up trawling through all the jobs for the sake of the odd hotel etc. I don't pick up much with RE anyway because of the fees and the silly questionnaires. I currently have Birmingham covered but I only see station jobs :(, they must do more than that there. Might be time for a phone call.....
What are the european ones??? Do you know Blindman??

The visits were one night stays in Basel, Zurich, Budapest, Larnaca and Sofia. I think the e mail may have only been sent to auditors. I would love to do one but have a young family at home so it's not going to be possible!

    Thank you, that's great.

For people who know the basement and cooking area wine jobs in East Anglia theres a few of those just appeared on RE. Havn't put an alert up because I think they're an error and will probably get taken off us again tomorrow. Theres 2 of each of them, both dated today, with a fee and reimbursement only slightly above the xxp mark. For buying a bottle of wine. If you want them they're all yours...
  • The doughnut jobs currently on Re, aside from the fee and reimbursement being particularly paltry, is anyone else getting a brief for a New Zealand wine shop?

... ETA ... and the address for all the jobs is The House, The Road, Milton Keynes!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

RE have surpassed their usual level of stupidity this time!
