Cheque deposited - amount not showing yet

I've deposited a cheque today, and understand that it will take a few days to clear. I used the pay-in slip, as well as my card to pay the cheque over the counter. I filled in the slip correctly.

I went to check online banking, and it's not showing. Is this normal? :o The total amount hasn't changed too...

Depends on which bank it is.

In my experience a cheque paid into my Halifax account will appear online soon after.
A cheque paid into HSBC will appear online the next day.

    It will probably show overnight.

You haven't said which bank, but HSBC show cheques overnight when paid in at the counter/paying in machine. It may take a day longer if you use one of the older machines that still need the envelopes.

Which bank? Did you pay it in after cut off (what day is the receipt stamped for)?

The bank is Barclays. I deposited today.

I forgot the time I deposit it, but I know it's between 3ish-4ish in the afternoon.

Depending on the branch, 3-4ish will run close to cut off time. Do you have the counterfoil? It will tell you the posting date on it.

Barclays processes cheques manually in branch; it can appear up to 7.30pm at night (depends how heavy the work load is).

The branch I went to closes at 4:30. I went in before that time. I wasn't given a counterfoil.

I will check on either tonight or on Monday to see if it appears on online banking. I will wait until Wednesday for the money (3 working days).

The cut off time is 3:30-4pm.

I remember depositing around that time span. :o Should have looked on the Barclays site before posting this topic.

Need to wait until next week for the money.

Cashie didn't give me a receipt or anything like that after deposting a cheque. Is this normal? I hope they won't loose the cheque or anything like that.

Cut off is a set time, not 3.30-4pm. It's signposted in the branch, each branch is different.

The credit slip you filled in has a part on the left hand side for you to fill in if you want a receipt. Otherwise they'll just ignore it.

It's very unlikely they've lost your cheque.

I didn't see the cut off time signposted for my particular branch.

I didn't fill in the left hand side of the slip, as I thought that part was for the cashier. :o
