Thank you so much for your 'point', Marleyboy. I would have thought it was rather obvious that not ALL shoppers are rude, and not ALL SA's are polite. Still, thank you for clarifying it, for those of us clearly not as intelligent as you.0

Your welcome
, although it might be worth you mentioning that point in your Original Post, but as you say.....it takes a little intelligence.

You get lovely customers and everything in the world can go wrong for them, but they stay reasonable. Literally 5 minutes later you have a customer with a minor convenience (item unavailable, can be ordered with a 2 day wait) and they lose it with you.
I know I haven't changed my approach, in fact, my number one technique is to be nicer to the idiots, as in many cases they notice their behaviour after a while and pull themselves together.
Some of the worst customers are actually from head office of my own company, which I note from discount card/conversation with them. I find it difficult to believe the superiority complex they have, as well as how out of touch they are with people who are effectively their colleagues.0 -
I've worked in retail for 3 Christmas's and at this year at the cinema (is that classed as retail?). I find the rudest people I have come across are cinema customers.
When I worked at Asda the main thing we had to do was keep customers happy, so the weekend before Christmas when the queue was really long I had to go around with a tin of Quality Streets to keep people happy lol.
Most retail staff I've worked with always try to help customers. I have been told I'm friendly, but I can also be firm with the troublesome customers (No ID for example). Sales staff have to be evetything - friendly, firm, the ability to keep calm when customers don't understand offers/prices.etc
I hate working in retail though - bring on the TV jobs next year!0 -

^THIS. Especially those who have retired, but retain staff discount. They inevitably ask you to sort problems by doing X, but the company stopped doing X years ago. Tell them that, and you get a patronising "Oh, don't be silly, I know you can."
However, the people I work with at the moment are wonderful - and hardly the sort of staff we have a reputation for! Everyone in my store knows what they're talking about (or admits when they don't), has some form of techincal knowledge and a good amount of common sense.
By and large, the customers are great too. It's only the odd one who is a real annoyance (but they all seem to come in on the same day). But we must have several hundred customers a week; I guess some people don't get out enough!
I will remember last Boxing Day (and the few days after). On the 26th and 27th, our server capitulated under the strain, causing some tills to freeze for about half an hour. Once they'd recovered (and on the 28th through to new year) we were unable to book anything for delivery..except by going through the customer orders the following morning and calling them through to the delivery centre. Practically all our customers were understanding and only about 2 people were peed off - thank you, people of Bournemouth, you made it better!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Seems that way from some of his other posts in other threads (and his posts in this thread)!!!
Having worked for many Years in retail myself, I have appraisals AND sympathies for both retail staff AND their Customers.
I am assuming the Original post has NO negative remarks whatsoever, maybe its your lack of recognising customer's worthy of appraisal that makes you feel your only input on this thread is a desperate attempt to look positive in a totally negative perspective.
I will take this opportunity to Wish ALL retail staff a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year........including the Stalkers who have nothing better to do but throw in a negative post, whilst having to "HIDE" behind an AE.........shall we say "trollers":A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

A few months ago I was behind an old guy in a small supermarket who was berating the assistant because they had run out of carrier bags.He was literally going nuts...as if the girl was at all responsible for the ordering of said bags.
He went totally over the top cursing and shouting, the bully.
A male shelf stacker emerged out of the back with an empty box which he offerred to the 'gentleman' for his purchases. He too received one or two sarcastic comments...whereupon in a quiet voice the stacker said...
"Are you disabled Sir?"...
"No,why?" came the reply
"Would you like to be?"
Exit one white faced bully...0 -
